I see these on marketplace all of the time. There's a kit to mount on a 4.0 SOHC. A few people here have mounted one on a 4.0 OHV, but you have to make your own intake to mount it on.

Thanks for the info, I was glad to pass it along, but didn't know if it was a worthless find or if someone could use em... for $125 / pop that is a steal I would guess without any research...

If you're refgerring to MODDBOX, I'm pretty sure that's the wrong version of the Eaton for it. I saw one of these on FBMP not long ago myself and was considering buying it for eventual install on my dad's '02 4.0L SOHC. Went looking and the info I found suggested that the inlet is machined/cast different than what is needed for that kit.

I have never seen a kit to mount a GM blower on any of the Ranger engines. The Moddbox and the RPCaster kits both used the T-Bird blower. The problem with the GM blower is the snout is not long enough, so the blower is too far forward, and the intake at the rear tries to be in the same space as the firewall.

Interesting. I knew it was the M90, just didn't remember which model cars they used for donors. I do recall discussions here about snout lengths by those that made their own intakes.

Those are all short snouts… IIRC, the short snout Eaton from the GM 3800 was a M62 and the long snout was the M90. They both were similar in design with the rear mounted throttle body.

Judging by the short snout, the bolt pattern, and the sides of the cases that I can kinda see, those are all Gen II M62s.

The facebook marketplace listing says they are off of GM 92-99... I just didn't know if they were of any use to us, but at the price he is/was asking figured I should throw it out to the community.

You are correct, those appear to all be m62s, the gm m90s won't fit in a Ranger engine compartment without either hacking a hole in the firewall or taking a bandsaw to the back of the unnecessarily long housing and welding on your own flange. Even a stock m62 is almost too long.

I'm maxed out at 6ish psi driving the blower as fast as is recommended by the manufacturer. It works well for my usage case and has proven to be reliable doing so. If I was wanting to stick a supercharger on a SOHC engine an m62 would probably be a bit too small for the effort it would take. I'm likely around 200hp and 300ft/lb with my setup, which is comparable to the sohc in horsepower and not a ton more torque. The crank pulley is the same size on both engines, the redline is higher on the SOHC, and the SOHC flows more air as is.

It can definitely be done with custom work. He fabricated a one-off intake manifold to use this style Eaton. With enough fabrication, you could remote mount that thing with an air to water intercooler and plumb it into anything.

It is not compatible with the 4.0L SOHC supercharger kit that I believe Jim was talking about.

Ask anyone who knows me, I've always done things a little differently, haha.

I contemplated rebuilding the 4.0 in TRS-2 and adding a supercharger. But as you mentioned, it's probably going to put me at a stock 4.0 SOHC horsepower. I've also considered a 4.0 SOHC, 5.0, and a GM 5.4.

I've also be thinking about a Bronco II build, so I might do the 4.0 SOHC and save the 4.0 OHV for a Bronco II build. I think TRS-2 with a supercharged 4.0 SOHC would be cool. I plan to eventually pick up a used M90 and save it for later.

I’ll check my inventory. I know I had a spare M90 that didn’t go when I sold my Supercoupe. I kept it thinking I may want to compound boost my 4BT, but I have a M112 from a Terminator Cobra for that now.

What about @bobbywalter ’s suggestion of a 2.3 Ecoboost in something?
