Afternoon!

I'm getting ready to do the front suspension and ball joints on my 94 ranger. Service manual says i need to replace the wheel hub grease seal (1190). But when i google that part number i don't get a good response. Does the service manual only give you partial part numbers, that then need to be combined with something else to get the full part number?

Example from manual

If so, how do i figure out what the rest of the part number is?

thanks!

Have you checked on a web site like Tasca? They tend to be a good place to get part numbers. Granted, your truck may be old enough that it got dropped out of the system but it might be worth a check. They also tend to have some of the best prices for OEM parts.

Thanks for the response! They have some parts for my 94 still, but not the wheel hub grease seal. I'll probably pull it all out for one side and get measurements for replacements (likely aftermarket, but that's fine).

Still glad to have another site to check for parts!

Those are just base numbers. You need the prefix (based on year and model, 4 digit.) and suffix (at least 1 digit) to have a complete part number.

Awesome, I knew I was missing something. Here's a link I used to figure out the prefix/suffix.
Fordification linky

So that would make the part i'm looking for: F47Z-1190-(revision. so A/B/C whatever) for the wheel hub grease seal (i believe)
Thank you!

That's a Timken 4250, I just bought two of them for my '90 a few months ago, looked it up on my orders :), bearings are Timken Set 37

94 could be a bastard year. If you have 4 wheel ABS order one for a 94 Explorer to guarantee that you get the right one.

wait, 4x4? If not I gave you the wrong numbers... your diagram and picture don't line up...

I believe I only have rear ABS. Is there an easy way for me to confirm that i don't have ABS on the front?

do you mean 4x4 and RABS? then yea i have that.

thanks!

I'm pretty sure the 4WABS was just explorers but also pretty sure it was only on 4x4's but on the D35's that only changed what rotors you order whether or not they have the tone ring in the rotor, pretty sure they all have the ring at this point.

To verify you have 4WABS look at the back side of the knuckle, are there any wires running there? If so, that's front ABS, if not just RABS

I think the pic you posted has the list for 4x2 as #1 is spindle not grease seal and so forth, unless they were drunk making that manual :)

Verified that its RABs only. no wires to front knuckle (or broken wires floating around that look like they could go to them lol).

I have the push-button automatic 4x4. Here's the full page from the manual. maybe this section of the manual is jacked up?

My buddy had a late build 94 4x4 that was 4wheel ABS with the slider pin calipers. The only way we could find the right seal was to look it up as an Explorer. Like I said “it could be” a bastard.

Nope, just the numbering between the two :), spindle is #1 on one and #13 on the other...

Sno, most auto parts stores swear up and down Explorers came with more than just the 4L in those years too and they used the D28 through '97... I have to think through what I ask for parts for, not just because my '90 is made out of like 6 :)
