Should the yolk on a transfer case for the front driveshaft ..should it be able to just slip right out or is there a problem

That depends on the year and which t-case you have.

If it meets the t-case with a boot, yeah.

If the driveshaft telescopes in the middle (boot is in the middle of the driveshaft) no.

On an ‘03 Tcase, you need to disassemble the case. The front output is held in by a snap ring.

what he said.
the yoke/CV holder are one piece with the front output shaft.
they can be replaced with the older style front output shaft, disassembly required.

Time out: Why are you wanting to remove the yoke?

There are 6 Torx bolts holding the CV to the yoke. The driveshaft show go from CV to u-joint.
