I'm sitting here trying to finish ordering brake parts and I forgot to look at the truck rear brakes today.
I have a '94 2.3 2WD, but it has a rear diff that doesn't match the door tag. Mine has an 8.8 rear diff in it.
Were all 8.8" rear diff units 10" drums? Or are there "it depends" variables here here some appliactions could be 9"?
It's late and Im hoping to not waste another day before I get the order placed, so if anyone who knows for sure can chime in, I'd greatly appreciate it.

A picture to make my "please feed me free information because I was lazy" thread a little less annoying:

Unfortunately it's in the "it depends" category so you're going to have to take a tire off or get really creative with a measuring tape going for a circumference...

damn, that's what I was afraid of.
and to top it all off, my floor jack threw a rod today and I had to jerk around with the bottle jack to get the front end on the ground off the jack stands... so I never remembered that I needed to check the back ones while I was having a fit over the jack puking on me.
so now I can't even jack the thing up til I go source a new floor jack (i'm not screwing around with that bottle jack, no way if i dont have to). I don't have time to research and find a rebuild kit for it then order the stuff.
oh well. brakes are still functioning, so i recon it's not a a fire that needs put out. I was just hoping to get the parts ordered so they would get here before the weekend.
thanks for he reply, at least I didn't roll the dice and order 10" stuff only to find out it's all wrong.

Part 1: You can measure from the backside - if the brake backing plate is >10", it has big brakes. If it is less than 10", they are 9".
Part 2: If the drums are finned they are 9" (unless someone has installed Aerostar drums). While if the drums are smooth, they are 10".

Between the 2, you should be correct 99% of the time.

Thanks for your replies fellas. I just went to the harbor fright and got a floor jack so I could just make sure. They were, indeed, 10"
