What did you do to your Ranger today? (Part Deux!)

It’s raining today, for the first time in 2-3 weeks now.
I’m driving around the work vehicle I use, a 2001 Ranger 2.3L 5sp, and realize there is a not insignificant leak from the back…. Dangit. Thought it was the window at first but it’s smack in the middle above the window. So now I’m thinking third brake light gasket. Can you buy just the gasket or is it a whole new assembly?
I bought a gasket for mine awhile back off of EBay if I remember correctly. In a pinch I’ve also put RTV around the edge of my light and installed it wet.

Yes you can buy the gasket separately just get the one with sticky tape on both sides or it will leak again. Experience talking here on this one.

Take the light off, carefully work the gasket off. Unless it absolutely crumbles, put a little tiny bit of silicone seal on it, and stick it back on. And it’ll be good for another 30 years.

Use clear silicone, and when you tighten it up, if any leaks out, just wipe it off with a tissue.

If this is your greatest problem, you are in very good shape!

I found the issue with the old pulley. The bearing was worn more on one side than the other. I did end up taking off the shields for the bearing and taking it apart. The grease was dirty and one side of the inner bearing race was worn more than the other.

if you want to see what I found I have a vid of it. Warning 14 mins of me babbling :

Too bad you already took it apart. If it was gone on one side and good on the other, you could try turning it around. You start by turning your truck upside down and facing it the other way…

That only works in Bizzarro World. Not reality.

Try switching the red lead to the 10amp port on the meter... then open a door so the dome lamp comes on.

Everything with an ECM is going to have a bit of draw. Maybe try borrowing another meter and checking it with a different meter.
Just to add to this anything with a clock in it will also draw something. This means even your factory radio will put a small draw on it to keep the clock and settings from resetting. I second trying a different meter as there should be some draw, although very small.
If hooked up correctly, you should be reading at least 30 on the milliamps range. Something wrong here. Make sure you have it connected in series the way Uncle Gump described up above.

The more that I think about it..

I bought this meter 3 days after I bought my 2010.. because it DEFINITELY had a parasitic draw. When I recruited my buddy to show me how to use the damn thing and help me find out where the draw was coming from I'm relatively sure we ended up using his meter because mine wasn't doing anything 🤔

I'll have to see if this is his weekend off and use his again. I'm sure enough it has a draw at this point where I'm gonna pop off the negative terminal whenever it's gonna be sitting more than a few hours.

I may have to run up to go pull it this weekend and pick up a couple interior trim pieces. They have four Mid 90s with gray interior in stock.

My only hesitation is their truck spot is at the back of the yard, literally maybe a quarter mile from the gate, down the valley and then up the hill, and they don’t rent golf carts.

I really want that right side AC vent cover now that I have AC, but I don’t want to die for it…

Pull-a-part has 22 at the south location and about six each at the east location and north location. I may need to make a loop run.

Send the sweat pea and promise her a nice lunch for her trouble.

Hmmm, that really would be quite the mastery, especially because we’re kind of on the out at the moment. But that usually changes with the wind.

Yesterday I picked up a bolt (finally) to get the traction bars in the green Ranger. Also finished getting the hitch bumper welded. Today the plan is to get it fitted to the truck (little bit of trimming, knock off some sharp edges and corners, get bolt holes in both it and the frame, and get the holes for lights and stuff in). I’ll soak it in WD-40 before it goes on the truck. It will get finish ground and painted when I’m back from Kentucky.

holy cow!!! 22 rangers?

thats true. forgot where you were
