What did YOU do today?

Yesterday I ended up mowing some of the yard with one of the Snappers for about an hour, worked decent even though it was way too wet to mow (I was bored and wanted to see if it would stay working for an extended run). Before that I put the camper on the F350 for next weekends trip to the coast, haven't tied it down or anything but it's on... then just screwed around in the shop, watched Christmas Vacation to round off the evening...

Today was dumb, wife woke me up at about 4:30 saying she couldn't take the back pain anymore so we went to Salem to the hospital. Aside from figuring she has Sciatica apparently they think she just passed a kidney stone so that's fun, got some prescriptions and got home around noon then took a nap... then off to my brothers for the first round of Christmas. I got a couple imitation Lego sets from Amazon, one cool blue Mustang fastback that's like 1700 pieces, another that's a tricycle tractor that is only like 300 pieces so we built that. Only put like 4 pieces in the wrong place and had to fix... The last one isn't here yet but it's the Winnebago from Spaceballs :). Got a retractable cord reel too and some other small stuff.

Tomorrow's gotta be better! :)

Sweet pea lives in a beautiful affluent subdivision, where the homes all look kind of Williamsburg, like Virginia Manor houses. They have a very long tradition of almost every house putting luminaria out at the curb. White paper bag, with sand in the bottom to hold it in place, and a little candle. It’s really beautiful and heartwarming.

Of course, when I said “they,“ I meant me. So I took the Missing Linc, a shovel and a 5 gallon pail over to where they provide a pile of sand. Well, apparently everybody got the Christmas spirit this year, and the sand was all gone. This was about 3:30, and there were several other folks looking to pick up their sand.

You have to capture this picture in your mind. These are all wonderful people, driving their Mercedes and Lexus and jaguars, standing around with that deer in the headlights look. Absolutely no idea, clueless on what to do because there was no sand. Then there’s me in a T-shirt and blue jeans in the Missing Linc.

Soooo, I told them to come back in a half hour or 45 minutes and I would get some. Halfway between there and my house they’re building a house. In the true Spirit of Christmas, I went over there and stole about 5 five-gallon pails of sand and brought them back. The other folks thought I was Santa Claus, not realizing the larceny they were involved in.

So I showed up late at sweet pea’s house, and got the stare, but she never chastised me. Then I told her what happened and she said “wow that’s great, you’re so nice, take the trash out and get my mail!”

I took out the trash and got the mail, made about 30 of the paper bag lanterns, and put them out, right at dusk, which was time to like them.

She was working hard to bring some food over to the big family shindig today, so I offered to order out and bring her dinner. She’s been working her tail off for several days. Then I had the afterthought, and I said “why don’t you ride with me to pick up the food and you can see the Christmas lights?“

Her eyes lit up, we grabbed the two dogs, and all piled into the Missing Link. It was at that moment when I realized why they call it a mini truck. What was truly amazing is she still had a smile as she climbed into my contraption. The little Christmas tour was truly breathtaking, a winter wonderland (but it was like 60°).

From then on, we had a wonderful evening
watching First Baptist Atlanta’s Christmas Eve worship on the big screen, eating on folding tables in the den.

You all are too young to hear what came after that….

Merry Christmas everybody you guys are the best!

Blissfully fell asleep for a warm winter nap.

You’re older than me. We know the truth.

So far, I’ve replaced a few conveyor rollers and figured out how to get a machine running manually so a contractor can do some pressure washing. More, as assigned after lunch.

The lumps of coal given out for Christmas was looked upon favorably. At least no one got mad and threw them at me or left them behind when they left. So, it was pretty much a successful endevor.

So, the afternoon consists of more unscheduled troubleshooting. A contractor is pressure washing ( with the 40,000psi pressure washer. The one that will literally slice your head off quicker than a guillotine) the paint booth conveyors and they need the ability to start and stop them when needed. Normally, this is easy. But during shutdown, a lot of other equipment is turned off which prevents the conveyors from running. So, we get enough stuff bypassed and re-arranged so they can do it. Then, they call;

them; “It stopped”
Us; “ok. We’ll figure it out.”

a little while later…

me; “it’s ready for you again. Only use the blue button.”

Them;”We did use the blue button, I think. But then it didn’t seem to work. So we thought the red button would reset the blue button.”

me;” The red button makes it worse. It makes EVERYTHING worse. Only use the red button if someone is dying. Blue button. Just use the blue button.”

rinse and repeat all afternoon. This was supposed to be an easy laid-back day.

Just me & the wife today as the “family” christmas stuff was a couple of days ago. Was unseasonably warm out, nearly 60 and sunny with a breeze out of the southeast. Had our small exchange of gifts then started the meal prep/cooking. Nice big ham in the roaster with cloves, pineapple & sugar, potatoes and cooked baby carrots. Let the chickens out to roam about 2. Ate about 330. Napped from 4-5 then shut the birds back in, topped off their food & water. It’s starting to rain now and its dark already. Time to start the dishes & get back to whatever classic tv show might be on.

Not much, went to the inlaws but crossed off some holiday movies... first Die Hard then 8 crazy nights, now home. We'll see if I get a wild hare and get into the shop for a bit...

Figured out last week that I had a stuck caliper causing the front left brake to drag on my F-100. Was causing the holding the truck back and causing it to pull hard to the left. Got the caliper it replaced and tried off and on this week to use a compressor powered vacuum bleeder to bleed the brakes. Finally gave up on that yesterday.

So today got dad to come over and give me a hand to do a good old pressure bleed. That worked like a charm, for bleeding and got good pedal again. A bit later I took it for a spin and the new caliper fixed the brake dragging, no more puling to the left while driving. Unfortunately when I applied the brakes I figured out that the passenger side caliper is stuck too, just stuck in the opposite direction so it won't apply power. Now it pulls to the left when applying brakes. I recon I'll pick up another caliper next week, but dad's next chemo round is tomorrow to it'll be a couple weeks before I can get an extra hand for pressure bleeding again.

Also found the source of a clunk/rattle in my car. Rear shock bushing worn. I had special ordered Koni adjustables because they were supposed to be so much better than the normal parts store shocks. They were installed somewhere around the 150K mile mark and it's worn out 30K miles later. Yeah, that won't be happening again. Current pricing for those is $200/side. That's more than I paid then, but ithey were still high at that time. Next payday I'll be buying the box store specials.

From the local wrecking yard today I scored the mandrel bent 2¼" exhaust tubing from a 2017 Ford Police Interceptor Unit (PIU) Explorer ST to be used in the fabrication of the dual exhaust for the BII 4.0l dual 2¼" exhaust; also using two Flowmaster 200 series cats and two Borla ProXS mufflers.

I am not exactly certain how everything will be plumbed, there is only room for extreme creativity. The current plan is to stagger the components as follows:
• driver's side cat 1st
• passenger side cat next
• driver's side muffler
• passenger side muffler
I am not yet certain if they will exit before the rear axle, after the rear axle, on both the left and right or both out the same sides. I am sure that if I were more intelligent, I would settle for an improved flow single exhaust...but I am not.
