What did you do to your Ranger today? (Part Deux!)

Refresh me a little. This is fun? A hobby, Right? We do this cause we like it, right?

In the last week half my junk pile fell apart while I was working on the other half. It always happens when I take one or two out for upgrade or service.

I dropped the tranny pan on the 87 Town Car to flush out the old fluid and add a drain plug for the next time I do it 10 years from now. I also took a couple things off the top of the engine to swap out all the plugs and do a general tuneup. So, of course, the AC went out on Ole Blue (88 Town Car). Pulley started screaming like a Halloween banshee. I haven’t checked if it’s just a clutch or if compressor locked up. Thank God it lasted till after the hot weather.

The Missing Linc is pulling a little bit to the right, and I noticed the right front tire wearing a little bit on the outside. I got the pinion seal, but haven’t replaced yet, and I’ve got a list of two or three other “have to” items. I want to at least rotate the tires, so I don’t ruin the one, and then get underneath and figure out what’s going on up there.

Ditto, I started to change out the fuel filter bowl on Big Red, and you know I’ve had the whole interior out of The Road Ranger to finish up the wiring to the accessories.

It’s all about careful planning. The 78 Mark V is running like a top, but of course it’s parked behind everything else, and I can’t get out it. It’s going to be a busy week…

beats 'da hell out of getting roped into honey-do chores :icon_thumby:

I got rid of the last official honey almost 10 years ago. Do you know why divorce is so expensive?

BECAUSE ITS WORTH IT!!!!!!!!!!

But sweet pea keeps me on my toes….

She HATES IT when I work on my cars and trucks for therapy. She wanted to have me committed when I started to build The Road Ranger. She actually likes The Missing Linc, but she also just figured out that Home Depot rents trucks for $29 an hour, so she thinks I should sell everything.

What’s that old joke about the wife and the dog? And he’s giving away the wife…

That sounds about right… I’ve had full intentions of fixing something 100% and then I won’t have to worry about it again for awhile every time I’ve taken something out of service and they usually end up 70-90% done and pressed back into service because something else broke and I now need what I was fixing

amen

I always liked to do a little custom work on cars and trucks. So I got this little ranger truck and started working on it. Then I met this bunch of hooligans in a club called “The Ranger Station.“ The next thing I know I’m driving this thing up to Pennsylvania for the Truck Nationals.

Since I was in the neighborhood, when I was done, I swung by my brothers house in northern New Jersey. It wouldn’t fit in his driveway, so I parked it on the sidewalk. It was well off the road, and it’s a fairly rural location. To be safe (thank God), I called the police department, explained the situation, and the young lady told me it would be fine if I just left it there overnight.

Well, apparently not really. I apparently got a ticket on August 7 at three in the morning. It rained that night, so if there was a ticket under the wiper, it wasn’t there by the time I got down to my son’s place a few hours south of there.

Well, today, November 3, I received a note in the mail from the Old Tappan Boro Municipal Court that if I didn’t report to the court by October 25, they were going to issue a bench warrant for not responding to the ticket (I never received). I’m not that worried, because I have “connections.”

It just shows you’ve got to be very careful who you run with…

I wrote a letter to the chief of police and emailed it to him today. Stay tuned…

Washed it and cleaned the rims. Why am I up at 3am. Ughhhhhh

A few months ago my dixie horn quit working, as I was busy with the chicken house & a few other things I just didn’t bother looking in to it. Today was a nice sunny no-wind 60-ish degree day. After putting the garden away for the winter I decided I had time & was nice enough to see if I could get my favorite air horns going again. Fuse was good, power in/out if switch, nothing to compressor. Went to the relay (that I normally dont use) and sure enough, power in but nothing out. Bypassed relay- and have dixie air horns again! Not sure I will bother with replacing relay. The toggle switch is plenty heavy enough and theres still a fuse on the circuit.

Sooooo disappointing. I put the BENT axle housing back in Mable. Can’t stand seein her immobile. No pig just housing but she moves. Gonna go on the hunt for another D-35 axle. The 5.13s are gonna have to wait for now.

Today was the first time I put trailer and all in the garage for the winter. During the driveline rebuild I found it way easier working underneath it while it was on the trailer than if it was on the garage floor. When you're my age(and size) getting up off the floor is a lot harder than getting off the trailer deck. Just got to roll out from underneath, swing your legs over the side and stand up.

Just curious - don't you want to block it up so those expensive tires don't get flat spots sitting all winter? or does a burnout make them all round again?

Wheels come off and get stored in the barn well away from sunlight and anything electrical. Garage is not a good place for tires with all the welders and compressor and grinders, etc going almost every day.

Fluid Film time!

Got some of it done before dealing with tree leaves.

I have that on my list. I have two gallons of the stuff sitting on the garage floor. I've only used rattle cans before. So, I'm hoping one can is good for one vehicle being that I have two trucks to spray.

After another weekend of offroading, I decided to check on my front hub seals to see if they are keeping water out. I opened the driver side and a couple ounces of water poured out! I soaked all the bearings in gasoline and repacked them. Some new hub o-rings hopefully will solve my problem.

I have some neat clips this time since I went with a friend. I'll have to find a way to host them.
