Hello from California

Did the throttle cable mod with a few zip ties, it made a difference in acceleration. Drove it quite a bit and learning to drive the 3.0 is knowing it's a higher rpm engine. Have ordered the gaskets and other parts i need to start the work on this engine.

The stock exhaust will be replaced with a si/so system. What size piping do you suggest for this engine? Have looked at Flowmaster, narrowed it to a 44 or deltaflow 40. Anyone have experience with either of these mufflers?

2.25" up to 2.5" should be fine. either will be an improvement, just different sounds and decibels.

i really like my 3.0 ranger with five speed. its a great truck. i have driven it across states with zero issues and its over the 200k mile mark

the 3.0 with a 4.10 rear end is a lot of fun to drive

The 3.0 with a 4/10 rear is fairly pepper especially if yours is a regular cab. There's a couple good tricks to help it. Throw some injector cleaner in the gas tank. Seafoam the engine and the oil before the next change. Maybe even Seafoam the oil a second time to get the gunk out.

If you are looking for more power, you could try running on higher octane, an improved air filter like K&N, an electric fan to cool the radiator, and all synthetic oil and dual exhausts. All of these are only minor improvements.

I would recommend changing the rubber coolant hose that runs across the top of the engine bay. if it cracks it could mess with the ignition nearby

I use Berryman's B-12 myself. I don't care for seafoam at all. Too weak.

I usually run mine on 91 octane. Have stainless steel mesh filter.

Are you referring to the hoses that attach to the intake manifold behind the throttle body? They are to supposedly heat the manifold. I junked those years ago, and plugged them at the source. I've never had a problem, even in below zero weather.

There are two more simple hacks for the 3.0. The first is to look inside the intake snorkle. Ford put a silencer inside a lot of them which did little good but reduced airflow. Take it out if you have one. It will help your engine to breathe.

The other is to tighten up the stretched accelerator cable by encircling it with 2-3 zip ties where it's connected to the gas pedal. It will give you an improved throttle response.

My 3.0 has an aftermarket intake with a full 3.0 inch polished stainless steel tube, no silencers in there. With a stainless steel mesh air filter, it roars. It's almost louder than the no muffler exhaust, with two tips in front of the passenger tire. Oh yeah, with a bunch of holes in the hood, the intake is really loud.

I put on an aftermarket larger throttle body. And put the zip ties around the arm on the throttle body, to reduce the slack. Works grand!
