2021 Ford Ranger FX4 TRS-3 Project Build

They are doing it to cover their ass. If for some reason you got into an accident with the wrong vehicle information, even though we all know the specs and dims are within the parameters, it would open them up to legal trouble. Even if it is a towed vehicle.

I've had to tell them I had an F150 to tow a Civic before, even though I pulled it with my Ranger. 4600# Gen II.
I had to tell them I was towing a Civic with my dad's F-150 just to get a dolly, I was actually pulling an Acura CL, ( 2 door accord, basically) they said for that car I need to rent one of their box trucks. We had already towed much bigger cars withthtat truck. Original owner used to haul horse trailers with it, I think it can handle a 3,500 pound car.

I once rented a 2-wheel dolly to pull home a 97 2wd 3.0 reg cab longbed- with a 92 2wd 2.3 longbed as the tow vehicle, not a word was said but “see you monday “.
Not from uhaul though, just a local rental place that rented out alot of different stuff.

I had to tell them I was pulling a Geo Metro with my Rangers when I was really pulling a Bronco II and I had to tell them I was pulling a Ranger with the F-350 dump when I was really pulling an F-150 reg cab long bed. They said the dump truck wasn’t big enough to pull an F-150. Have my own tow dolly now, or rather I borrow it off dad, lol. I get the safety thing, but I think they take it a little far and down rate everything to the lightest possible configuration (like they probably took the lightest tow rating possible for an F-350 of that year which would be a single rear wheel configuration of some sort and set the limit below that, which does not at all correlate with a F-350 dually dump’s tow rating). It’s annoying.

When I got the new wheels and tires I didn't mount the spare under the truck because I wasn't sure if it would fit, and a company had offered me a new bumper to promote that had a swing out tire carrier. After realizing they weren't going to come through for me I decided to mount the spare under the truck.

These new tires measure out to 33.5 inches. It actually fit well with room to spare. I shifted it off to one side a little to keep it away from the exhaust.

It does help that the spare tire rack is an open design on the new Rangers. Just a bar with a couple of rubber contact patches. It will be interesting to see what the limit is. Someone will try a 35 at some point.

I did have to tinker with the tire circumference on Forscan before the speedo read right against my GPS.
Using the tire manufacturer's numbers (Cooper) converted to mm we were in the 2500 range and the speedo was reading much too fast. At 2400 it's spot-on with a 265/70-17 tire.

Adding The TRS Logo

I finally removed the FX4 logo and replaced it with a TRS logo.

It needs some more red and blue. I thought about adding a red and blue stripe on the front fender that goes up under the hood that follows the angle of the line where the front fender and the plastic panel under the headlight meet.

I also thought about putting a blue stripe up the center of the hood outlined with a red stripe and 3 white stars going up the middle.

Thoughts?

The Making of A TRS Decal:

I layed a line of tape over the tol of the FX4 logo before removing it. Then I marked the edges and a couple of reference points along the bottom to lay it out straight according to how the FX4 logo was laid out.

I do the logo in vinyl because I can make them myself, and because vinyl doesn't fade like printed stickers do.

The logo was made to go over a white bedside, so I laid down a white base for the logo to go on.

Here's the black vinyl section being 'weeded' before it can get covered with application tape.

A twin red and blue pinstripe starting at the headlight, sweeping up the fender and straight back to the taillight would be nice.

A blue stripe up the center of the hood surrounded by a red pinstripe would be nice but I think the stars might be a bit much.

What about using the recessed body area in the doors, like this?

(Best I could do on my phone, but you get the idea.)

That would go good with your idea for the Stars and Stripes on the hood.

I was go8ng to dress like Captain America, but I like this more.
