Saw a Lightning ...

Did you get one as a new daily driver?
Absolutly not. But now and again ill see a clean rust free one and think "damn those do look decent"...even though i remember thinking in 97 when i first seen them what ugly turds they were.

My current DD is a um..,.uh....chevrolet.

Are you sure you’re feeling ok? This doesn’t sound like the Rusty we love… worried about you now… do we need to have an intervention?? :scare::scare:

I’ve always thought they were boring, uninspiring, blend in with the masses trucks.

The 2nd Gen Lightning took that boring body style, gave it some life and made it the only variation worth looking at.

Not really.

They were back in the glory years of Ala-carte. So many colors and two tones and fender flares and wheels. Hardly any two were alike and aside from the wanna be first gen Tundra nobody confused a Dodge for a Ford or a Ford from a Chevy. They all looked different.

Base model white trucks always have been boring and they always will be.

As opposed to today where you can get any color you want as long as it is gray and if you want these wheels you have to get that console BS. We picked up my wife's Bronco at the dealer from a service tonight, there were three other trucks in view from where her Bronco was parked that were the same color as my F-150. Aside from being shortbeds they were its twin on the outside.

I didn't get it because I was in love with the color, I got it because there is basically no interesting options for colors and at least it won't show gravel dust as bad as black.

I have yet to see my 2002's twin, came close like 10 years ago in a Sears parking lot but it had different wheels. I still miss the ol' girl, it was just comfy. The new one rides nicer and is quieter but I liked the cockpit layout much better in the old one.

Lightnings of any gen do nothing for me. First gens were interesting but not really much more than a warmed over normal truck, second gens are kind of worthless to me and third gens are not much better.

Its an 05 cobalt. Guy i knew bought it for his daughter for high school. She went to college and left it. He was gonna scrap it cause it had a missfire and needed brakes. Gave him 400 bucks and drove it on the trailer. Put a 80 dollar coil pack and a set of pads on it, fixed the knock sensor wire and have put 3000mi on it since beginning of july getting 30mpg.

Its the slowest car i ever drove, is missing half the grille, the sun scorched the paint about off, and its got 222k...but i think i did ok.

We are all going to assume you started shaving your legs Rusty... that's all... except for a man bun.

Haha funny...

Seriously though, my 2.9 would eat this thing alive. Maybe its tired? I dont know. But it accelerates about like my peterbilt....loaded.

I got to crawl around a Lariat trim of the new Lightning a couple of weeks ago at a car show and came away wanting one more than I already did. The owner parked their brand new GT500 right next to it. They popped the frunk of the Lightning open and sat in the shade with a chilled beverage while they talked to people.

I'd don't want all of the fancy tech of the higher trims, but I'd take an XLT Lightning with extended range battery in a heart beat. But I'm not paying $65k + dealer markups for a truck.
