What did you do to your Ranger today? (Part Deux!)

Wine? To make things work from Microsoft requires something stronger, say vodka.
Funny and I agree. But in Linux, Wine = Windows emulator

On the subject of used oil we had a oil burning furnace in our old shop we doubled filtered the oil and welcomed used oil from other friends with the stipulation there was no water or antifreeze in it because it would screw up the furnace. It would burn oil, trans oil and brake fluid, no gas or any thing of that nature.

I'm researching making one myself. I have an old small wood burning stove to convert. Next door is a small trucking outfit where I can source used oil.

I've heard the home made one are normally pretty robust, but everyone I talked to with a commercial one had nothing but complaints. Always talk about them being super finicky, I suspect it's because it needs to be super efficient to be epa compliant or something.

Ive heard you could just run a metal line to the top of a woodburner, have a valve so it can just slowly drip. A little water or antifreeze wouldnt affect much Id think. Ive thought about doing it with a barrel stove kit.

The homemade ones I've seen were made from an old water heater. I think petroleum junkie has one.

if people would just try linux or any of the other types of systems. i am not a computer guy, at all, and i love ubuntu. i played with damn fine linux back in the day a bit but liked ubuntu so much i only used that at home for like 10 years. its even better now because you don't have to go into wine to make things work from microsoft.

my kids didn't even know they were on a linux operating system for a few years. it did everything windows did but charge money to use it

I used to run Linux. It's great for a server, but not so much for a desktop. When I ran it on my desktop machine, I was constantly running into stuff I couldn't do. Eventually I had a secondary Windows machine for that. I ran that way for a couple of years, until I got a new computer and decided that I would just run Windows on it. I kept a linux machine as a server for a number of years after that, but now that I no longer run that server, all of my machines are Windows.

My next laptop (late summer 2022) will be a Mac. 16 inch Macbook Pro with the M9 Pro processor, a 1TB hard drive, and 32GB of Ram.

Ubuntu is almost as plug and play as Windows is now. I have played with linux in various distros for over 20 years now, and Ubuntu is probably the most intuitive. Started out with Mandrake Linux 8.0 back in 2000 or 2001. that one required some reading up and way more command line stuff to get it up and running.

LinuxMint is another decent distro.

Since I am sure @ericbphoto is curious, I put the heads in the back of my truck again so I can go clean them up and see if the valves need touched up at dad's shop tomorrow.

Depending on how far I get I might get them reassembled with new springs/hardware and seals tomorrow too.

Also figured out what is pooping all over my camper like a pterodactyl and leaving bird feathers all over in the barn, it seems a screech owl moved in.

Awesome, hopefully he keeps the swallows out. :yahoo:

I drove up to the forest service office to renew an annual collector's permit. After I was done with that I tried a bit of gold panning in a small creek. I found a bit of gold dust in the pan, but there really wasn't enough water to do much with and what water that was in the creek was COLD!. When I got home I parked my Ranger directly behind the crappy car with expired tags parked in my driveway. It's unlocked, so when my neighbor gets home we're going to attempt to roll it into the nearest vacant spot on the street if a tow truck doesn't arrive before then. I called it in as abandoned on private property so it can be towed. There are a few strange complexities about towing vehicle here. Something like a vehicle can be towed if it is blocking a private driveway, but 24 hours must pass before it can be towed from private property unless it is abandoned, but expired tags can always be towed unless it is your vehicle on your property.

I installed a new trans and started fixing the exhaust. Still have to install a muffler and run the exhaust out the back.
I’m looking for a M5OD shifter if anyone has one.

Maybe the screech owl is scaring the poop out of the swallows and that's why your camper is covered.

I replaced the Valve cover yesterday. I may restore the old one, it didn't look too bad, I'll see if I can sand it and refinish it back to normal. Here's the restored cover I purchased on ebay.
