The autumn years of the ICE should be the golden years for the ICE.

You missed this part.

This is why you see, Drive/Eco/Sport modes in new auto cars. Makes the throttle more and less responsive to your inputs.
Theres alot of drive by wire cars without that though.

I can't remember what vehicle it was that gave me my first distaste for TC. One of my ex wife's FWD cars most likely. I was pulling out onto a main highway (55mph) from a side street on a tiny patch of slush. In the middle of moderate acceleration, a brief burst of wheel slip caused it to flat out cut the power completely for a couple of seconds as I stared in horror at cars coming towards me. It eventually gave me the juice I needed to avoid death, but it sure got my attention!
Thats how i got my first taste of it. A 2.5L escape isnt gutsy as it is, went to pull out across 2 lanes of traffic to turn left..planted my boot to the floormat, heard a tire chirp then just....nothing...nothing...nothing....then go.

Its good for the wife though....cuts down on my tire bill. After i just put my new BFG A/Ts on my F250 she full throttled it out into traffic and lit the tires hard.

I wasnt happy.

It's probably a good feature -most- of the time. But that particular quirk was enough to make me very intentional about disabling it and providing my own traction control under certain circumstances. Like I said though - the newer vehicles that I've driven it weren't nearly as rough around the edges. Whoever thought killing the power completely was a good idea clearly didn't step through the possible outcomes very thoroughly.

Our Mazda's sport mode in the transmission makes the throttle by wire feel great.

And my titan has that 40% power till 30 mph. And from a stop, 40% still takes me up the road with the back of truck sideways. I bought a throttle controller and got rid of the power cut but I just took it off because if was to touchy.

Throttle controllers get rid of that stupid eco setting on the pedals but why should we have to pay 100-300 bucks for the pedal to act right?

I do have a serious question....

WTF is the point in drive by wire? Seriously. What does it fix? Why was it introduced? Was it to let the ECM control the throttle for trac control or something?

I literally see zero point in it.

and traction control? Is there ever a situation where its benificial? If so i aint found it. The wifes escape has it and every time ive gotten it stuck i shut that shit off and it comes right out.

Find me a vehicle that isn't drive by wire.

Tractor trailers been drive by wire mainly since the 80s.

It is.... government mandated emissions. And government mandated traction control.

And....now.

Way too much power.

You can buy the devices and software to make it run like drive by cable..

But if you have actual power....don't cry about shit breaking

And you totally miss the poll data.

The next 5 years are just the beginning.

Of course...I know what's in the pipeline. So that's a cheat.

Most higher then half ton pickup truck sales are diesel in the recent curve...which is classed as alternative.

Like you I suspect limits.

Because ford is losing the tech edge on ice. Gm and Toyota just pimp slapped Ford something aweful.

But these engines are direct injection cammers. Very diesel like....but gasoline.

The Toyota tt v6 thoroughly embarrassed my powerboost in working fuel economy...and made the idea of Godzilla being useful a joke.

The I.C.E. is far from dead....but at the moment...mainline innovation is on hiatus as the current crop gets deployed.

Thats commifornia. Its 3.19-3.39 here.

Ill pay 5.89 a gallon if it keeps me out of a EV
I hope you padded that.....

They will go to 5.88 now that they know your tolerance.... Stop tipping your hand....your killing me.

I have paid it before

Interesting read. But....once again....totally different scenarios. EV's are not superior to IC. Like IC was to horses.

If anything EV have more in common with horses then gas does (limited range, unfixable, long recharge times, "feeding" them even when not in use, affected by heat/cold.....)
