When I was reading the article about this it never mentioned anything about if I have to change the proportioning valve and or the brake master cylinder. The reason I'm asking is because I have bled all the air out of the system and the rear brakes are not fully locking up. I tested it when the rear end was still up on jack stands and with just the truck idling it would push through the brakes with me having to pedal fully pressed. Also the parking brakes are not holding like they should. If anyone else has any insight on what I might be overlooking or on anything else I need to do, please let me know.

It sounds like you still have air in the brake lines and the parking brake needs adjusted.

I have done this on a couple of Ranger trucks, and if anything, the disc brakes are just a bit stronger than the drums that were replaced, so if they are not stopping the axles from turning with the truck idling in gear, that means they are not bled properly.

You just need to adjust the parking brake cables to make them engage properly.

Ok. I'll try bleeding it again. And I've adjusted the parking brake until they started sticking, but they still didn't hold the truck. After doing some more reading, I think my cables might be shot.

If the pedal for the parking brake goes down more than half way and cable is adjusted properly your cables are sticking and I'd spend less than 75$ and replace all three. Takes a couple hours but will fix the problem.

Awesome! Thank you.

My last suggestion is getting a pneumatic bleeding kit if you haven't already, like 25$ on line 38 at harbor freight. Just need a compressor that gets 90 lbs and pulls fluid. Cheers.

I suspect you'll need a master cylinder designed to work with rear discs, calipers need more volume than wheel cylinders.

Would I get it from the mustang as well or would a 95 explorer match up better?

It would depend on how the sizes of your front caliper pistons compare to the donor vehicle's calipers. I think either would work, worst case you'd have to plumb in an adjustable proportioning valve and turn down the rear if there's a grabbing problem.

10-4. I really appreciate the advice.
