TRS 2021 Fall Off-Road Round-Up

Im leaving friday after work so i should be there around 7. Probably just throw my topper and air mattress on the gmc and camp in the bed since as of right now Mrs.Shackleford still has zero interest in rangers and all associated activities lol. Also Ill have my blackstone griddle/burner combo and fry basket.

Probably head out Saturday night (unless the ranger breaks sonner lol) so i can hit up my grandmas just across the boarder in IL.

Looks like a few more people for this year...

So... about this pizza bake on Saturday night. I still have connections in the pizza world and I'm willing to donate a good portion of what will be needed.

My plan is to bring enough thin crust discs to make about 10 pizzas. That would be enough to feed 20 pretty hungry people. I can adjust this number up or down to whatever is necessary. I will also supply pizza sauce... cheese and then normal pizza toppings. If you want special toppings... bring them and we'll get them on a pizza for you. What I really need is to know how many people are going to want pizza.... typically a really dumb question.

How big are they

How big are the discs?

14 inch large. I also plan to bring pans to bake them in.

The only kink I can think of for making them over a fire is that I need a dome to put over the pizza to bake the top... I'm working on a solution. I have a grill grate and post that I will have to swing the grate over the coals.

Ok. First of all, Gump, this is great. Thank you very much and I would be more than happy to contribute monetarily in addition to helping with meal prep and cooking.

As for a dome, maybe a clean galvanized tub like one from Tractor Supply. How big? I guess somewhere around16" diameter? I'll try to look at a few things this afternoon. I also have a grate I can bring. But it doesn't have a post and "swing in and out of the fire" action. I'll also try to remember to pack some good oven mitts for grabbing hot stuff. I have a haircut appointment Tuesday and that takes me past my favorite restaurant supply store. I can get more mitts.

We could just dig up a bunch of mud and rocks somewhere and build a wood-fired oven.

I wish my weber wasnt so bulky...

As far as the pizza stuff... I have that covered. But thanks for the offer to help. Like I said... I still have some good connections. But any help you want to offer making it come together at the camp ground will be welcomed.

I've never tried to pull off making pizza on an open fire... but I figure it can't be that hard.

I believe My little weber is to small... It's also packed in my storage unit and I'm not pulling shit out to get to and I don't want to bring my big weber. So that's why I need a dome. I'm headed to Rural King for fence supplies I will see if they have something that will work.

The only way I've done pizza on an open fire was inside a dutch oven, but it was delicious that way.

Clarification... that was over charcoal, not a true open fire.

Pizza on a charcoal grill is phenomenal. I waited way too long in life to try it.

If Mrs. 85 wants to make dough... we can work that in also. The thin crust are just easy to make happen.

I wouldn’t use anything galvanized around food and fire.... that’s just a bad idea.
