TRS 2021 Fall Off-Road Round-Up

The paint wasn’t quite dry yet, but I mounted everything anyway. Not that it matters much, these are supposed to be temporary. My future plan is to move the tent and the awning over to the trailer. I’ll have to make all new mounts for everything when I do that.
I had planned on mounting and opening the awning today, but it looks like we might get some rain... it’ll have to wait. Here are some pics of the awning mounted, but not opened.

I wanted to get a Slumber Jack Roadhouse Tarp but the trailer repair ate up the money for it.

Back in March, I saw a bunch of overlanders using tarps like that. Small and easy to pack, quick setup and teardown. Definitely follows the KISS principle.

I like simple where I can get away with it. Hell, I'm simple.

I have thought about one fir my camper, trying to figure out how well it would mesh with the camper though.

Looking at the pictures, you might need to make extensions for the side straps. It would take some figuring and fabricating to make it work but I think it could be done. Since my caps are cab height, they are pretty much "plug and play" for me.

Too high it is into the canvas, too low it is into the aluminum gutter above the door.

You might need to attach it to the top before you crank up the roof to make sure you have enough head room. I think it would be ok to let the back end stay stock and let it cant. It would make sure any rain ran away from the door. You would loose some side protection but would still have the over head and it should still work as a sun shade. This is of course, entirely theoretical. I've never seen a slumber jack in person and I'm making some guesses on how tall and wide your slide in is.

It’s basically a tarp... I think you could find a way to attach it.

I haven't seen the awning in real life yet to know if it is worth the $100 gamble.

Not popped up the roof is 8' off the ground. Add another 2-3' for up travel and surround with clearance lights that fall apart if you look at them wrong... kinda leary about using the roof.

And since @Jim Oaks is probably wondering what the latest charge on the TRS Staff credit card is:

Nice! That's the one I have. I bought it earlier in the year but haven't used it yet. I got it out and adjusted it for one of my GoPros a few days ago. Then bought a Pelican case at Harbor Freight to put it in so I can leave it set up all the time.

Well it looks like the weather is going to be pretty nice for the trail ride.

and no cold nights like last year

It's kinda freaky.

I thought it would be like one of those perpetual motion things.

No, there is a battery, computer, little motors and other wizardry in it.
