What did you do to your Ranger today? (Part Deux!)

Why do today what you can put off until tomorrow?

I work 8 hours, have a 1 hour commute each way, and 100 animals to feed. I do what I can! Plus I have 2 working vehicles. This is a toy! Give me some slack!

you probably should consult the lawyer goat and see if you can get out of this extra work that @85_Ranger4x4 is suggesting...

I would use a synonym for Musk Mellon as part of your argument.

Going to take mine to the mechanic tomorrow.

Started it up to go home and the 4.0 SOHC idled really rough to the point the whole truck shook. I shut it off and restarted it. It was smoother, not smooth , so I threw in some fuel injection cleaner and mid grade gas. That helped a little more, but when trying to rev in neutral to clear the injectors, it would only go to 3,000 rpm before acting like it hit a limiter. 😪

I checked the pcv hose but it was nice and firm during revs. No deformities. Maybe the valve, fuel filter, line, fuel pump...

Also no check engine light.

Just not sure.

It probably was hitting the limiter... I don’t recall what year they started, but most newer Fords are limited to 3k in neutral.

Sorry, I can't wait that long...

So I spent extra for the engineer spec safety/reflector tape, but it doesn’t bend around the wheel well curves. If you stretch it with the heat gun it fits, but then won’t stick. I’ll pull it and use a double row of smaller tape tomorrow. I swapped the planned red on top to the yellow, inspired by the masking tape. That worked perfect, but it was a straight line. God forbid I do anything on this thing just once...

10 years ago today I drove my truck with a V8 for the first time, been daily driving it for two weeks straight out of winter hibernation and haven't really done much too aside from throw gas at it... its been pretty fun.

Successfully rebuilt a double cardan joint on a front driveshaft. First tried with 1 ton arbor press assisted by a hammer, -ended up with unleashed needle bearings gone wild on my bench.

Wised up with help from a friend, another new $25 u-joint, and used a ball joint removal tool to press the cups out and new ones in.

Muuch easier!

Ball joint presses are really priceless...

Passed on a really good deal on a 302 Explorer... timing on these deals never seems to work out.

received my tuned ecu today, had to make a quick dash to o'ripoffs to get a grommet for intake air temp sensor. truck will not idle on its own now, cranks, runs with a light push of the skinny pedal. but that's it. codes are p0340 and p1000. i'm sure the tuner will help me out, but my only way of communication is email and time zone differences make our conversations delayed. i'm getting aggravated, i want to drive this thing, rip a donut or 3! anyways got a t5z coming from modern driveline, be here Monday. 2.95 1st, .63 5th should be a nice upgrade!

Redid the red safety strip overlapping two thinner stripes, worked great, but ran 5ft short. Ordered a bunch more, probably use some on the 97. Started putting the tailgate together, playing with LEDs and other lights and such. Have to cut & put the grille together (I’ve got a scrap grille to play with and a good one in reserve) & do the roof lights. Then wire, wire, wire probably this weekend. Great weather here.

Oh, and “The Sheepman” is on TCM Friday. 12:45PM EST. Set your DVRs...

Ordered more race parts today - TCI flywheel and transmission shields.
