How do you like your 5g?

You'd have to ask @adsm08 that. I think they just use a "Ford" version of seafoam through the intake but on a new $35,000 car I'd rather have them take the chance screwing it up and hydro locking it. :ROFLMAO:

Your right on about that lol.

I think in extreme cases... media blasting. Perhaps walnut shells.

Now that you mention it... im relatively sure I've read thats pretty much the process a lot of the VW lunatics take.. or have to take. What a pain in the rear.

I think the media blasting is a measure you take when you HAVEN'T done regular decarbonizing treatments on schedule. Plus it seems VW people have the biggest issues with this problem. I don't know why but I suspect they just have terrible PCV systems.

The 2.3 EcoBoost is based on the 2.3 Duratec which actually has a good PCV system with an oil separator built into it. It's a pain in the butt to change but it does seem to work better than most at keeping gunk out of the intake (providing you change it every 12,000 miles as recommended). Enjoy removing the fender to change a PCV valve!

I'll probably enjoy paying to have it done cause I won't want to do it myself lol.

Adding an actual catch can will be on the short list of things to do along with wheels and a leveling.

If i get a 2.3 bronco it will be getting a catch can.

I have heard some dealers can get weird about warranty with them though.

Id just tell them it was made by Magnusson moss lol. Dealers are scumbags who try to get out of anything.

I’m waiting for the warranty to be up. At the rate miles are being racked up currently, it may expire before the year limit and the thing is paid off.

I can’t remember the brand of the catch can but there is one that is setup to be pretty much plug and play. You just disconnect a short hose with quick disconnects. Route and connect the kit hoses. Mount the can on the rad support and connect the hoses to the catch can. That only covers the non-forced induction side but I’ve yet to see anything made for the forced induction side for the 2.3.

BG intake cleaner.

@sgtsandman @HenryMac

Either of you have the base radio? Does it have Bluetooth connectivity? I'm not impressed new stuff doesn't come with cd players, I at least need to be able to connect my phone for pandora. Everything I've found to read about online is about the fancy radio I'm relatively sure.

I'm a flip phone guy. The wi-fi's never been turned on on our truck.

The truck doesn't have a CD player... which initially pissed me off. But then I learned how to rip a bunch of our cd's and put them on a thumb drive. So now we get to listen to our own music collection, via the USB port, instead of carrying around a bunch of cd's.

I have a crankshaft out of a Chrysler straight 8 and a suggestion as to where you can store it.

Just poured in a vacuum line like a redneck or do they have a "special" procedure?

We have a spray applicator. Exactly how and where it gets hooked up depends on the setup of the engine, I try to get it as close to the throttle as possible, behind the throttle and hooked to a central vacuum port is even better. Then you hook it to shop air to pressurize the bottle and walk away for 20 minutes or so while the cleaner runs through and does it's thing.

The tip on the unit creates a fine mist spray kinda like a large fuel injector.

I apologize in advance if this is a stupid question...

Have you done this on a 2.3 Ecoboost in a Ranger? Only reason I'm asking is I seem to recall that this is a no-no because it can flush carbon chunks through the turbo?

Or perhaps this a non Ford authorized procedure?

Thanks.

BG intake cleaner.
Looks like they've got one that comes in a pressurized can.

Is this part of the official service schedule, or did people just figure out that it works?
Does it make a hideous cloud of smoke, like Seafoam does when you pour it in the intake?

It's being sprayed in before the turbo. It's going from the manifold to the valves. Crap could come out of the exhaust through the turbo but its being vaporized in the combustion chamber.

Unless your engine is HORRIBLE I wouldn't worry. Again, im sure @adsm08 knows more about how it's done.

If you've got huge chunks of carbon coming out that could damage the turbo, you probably neglected service for quite some time.

And that's why I said before, have the dealer do it... they break it they bought it. I'm confident decarbonizing my 09 2.3 myself but why risk it on an engine under warranty? You can hrdyolock or destroy things. I seafoam but I'm very careful about it. Slow and steady, let it hot soak, then go.smoke up the town.

I don't have pics of my valves but this is 75k on my 2.3. See any sludge or wear?
