I watched your second video, that aluminum piece you have there should work fine. I would not worry about having a fan or airflow, just mount it over on the driver's side fender where it will be easy to wire up. Just drill the holes out so they line up to the module.
The EGR being gooped up is why they fail. There is a little valve in there and it gets stuck open. The EGR lets exhaust back into the intake for emissions reasons. Yes, they are putting exhaust back into the engine along with the air and fuel from the carburetor. Sounds logical doesn't it?
