I've got a 2020 Explorer Loaner

The way I look at it, the new Explorer fills a gap for us that don't want a front wheel drive minivan. It is not what it was in the 90's, but hauling a family it's not bad. Rear wheel drive feels a lot better and comes at a cheaper cost than moving up to the Expedition price range.

I would hope the new Bronco will fill the gap that the explorer from the 90's left.

And as far as BMW, I've been to that plant many time. I work at the steering gear supplier for the X3 and X4.

I'm not a huge fan of them to be honest..... From what I can tell BMW is not building a vehicle for longevity, they are building it for the most performance they can get....

I also see that GM has switched the tahoe to IRS for 2021. Im assuming the surburban to. That means that there is zero "main stream" SUVs with a real axle in back.

Ford is also supposdly devloping an IRS for upcoming high trim 150s. Guessing it wont be long till that trickles down to.

Its aggravating, if the market would of stayed in sedans where 90% of them belong we would still have real trucks. Instead of wanting trucks that perform like sedans.

Some of these new fords ive had up on lifts escapes, explorers, and Taurus. I think are going to have some serious rust problems with the rear subframe they are only 2-5 years old and are really rusting around the welds and where control arms are mounted. Maybe @adsm08 has a more valid opinion but it doesn't seem like they are going to last 15-20 years.
Car manufacturers don't want people keeping a vehicle for 15-20 years. They want people trading them in every 3-4 years.

For what I want, the Expedition is too darn big. Not to mention the price tag. Nothing wrong with them if it is the right fit for what you need, just too much of everything for what I need.

They don’t even want you waiting that long. It wasn’t six months before I started getting junk mail wanting me to trade in one of my trucks for a new one. They didn’t care if it was the 2011 or the 2019. They’ve sent junk mail for both.

I dont want to purchase a vehicle from any manufacturer with that mindset. You might as well take those classics from the 60's-70's and crush them with that mentality.

That is the mindset they had when they made 60's-70's stuff.

Engines were beyond shot at 100k but nobody cared because the body was even worse.

My opinion is that you are right.,

Because, screw car companies!

Come on up to the land of road salt. You’ll see what rust is and why it’s called the rust belt!

Don't go! It's a trap! They lure you up there with good food, cozy cabins in the woods, awesome trout fishing, great offroading etc. But they will deposit layer upon layer of oxidizing chemicals on your precious vehicle. It will never be the same again!

Don't go up there!!!!!!?
