My credo
Doing things wrong, until I get it right.
I'm currently waiting and scouring the interwebs for a donor V8 expo/Mounty.
My 3.0 v6 is locked up and the truck is just sitting in the backyard. I was wondering where I should start with the deconstruction of my ranger. It's pretty much stuck where it is ( I use my lawn mower to move it around the yard ) under a huge oak tree. What can I start doing while I wait on my donor. Getting antsy and tire of looking at the poor thing. It really wants a:3gears: V8 in it and looks so sad sitting there with it's sick motor.:bad: It would make us both feel better if I was doing something to it.

Pull the engine and trans out.

And take lots of pictures. Every chance you take. You never know when you want to look back at how something was assembled later.

Lol and pm me I have plenty of pictures. While the engine and trans is out you could paint everything in the engine bay.

You could always do one of my favorite things that I call the "two hander".

One hand does down your pants, the other goes up your nose (well, a finger any way). It's a great way to kill some time, but be careful of blisters and bloody noses and such.

I prefer to grab my wife. But, " To each, his own."

On a more productive note, read the tech articles and lots of related threads on TRS. Also, order lots of parts and new tools.

Well she was at work and groping her doesn't get the big crusty ones out of my nose.

:icon_rofl:So grope a wife, pick boogers and frame off resto. Got it:thefinger:Thanx guys. Couldn't have done it without you:annoyed:
I guess i'll start with pulling the radiator and cleaning out the engine bay.

If your 3.0 is flex fuel, plan on replacing the fuel pump as well, along with moving wires around accordingly. Not difficult but it takes a bit of time and can be done before you get the explorer. Get a pump from any other engine ranger of the same year and wheelbase.
If you're interested in a body lift to make bolts easier to access, now would be a great time.
Also, remove the drivers side engine mount.

No FLEX fuel, and I'm thinking about going the other direction. Maybe lowered a couple inches. Depends on the donor I get really

Is the truck 4wd?

SWB AWD 5.0 Ranger would be kinda neat...

Mine is not, But if I get a 4WD donor then I will go that route. I've seen a few 2wd Expo's with V8's. Best case scenario, I getr one of those. If not awd would be my next goal, 4wd is my last option. I don't go muddin too much in my truck. We got a few side-by-side's to play with. My truck wants to be a street rod.

I was thinking it would be pretty cool to have an AWD street truck too. The truck has a nice stance as it sits but I would drop the rear about 2'' if I went AWD.
