Hey yall

I just picked up an 03 Ranger Edge 4x4 automatic with 83k miles and single owner. I'm new to the truck life, but I am excited to turn this daily driver into a fun project truck as well. Just wanted to know if there was any tips you could give me to get started on the right foot mechanically with this beast to ensure all my bases are covered since I don't know much about the truck's history other than it was a single owner and had a clean carfax. Right now the only problem I have is a belt screech on start up and occasionally on acceleration. I'm new to messing around with the mechanics of a vehicle, but I'm excited to learn bringing my Ranger along with me. Any help or leading me to the appropriate thread on the forum would be much appreciated.

Thanks a bunch.

Howdy and welcome to TRS~!

Belt screeching can be caused by a few things...including worn pulleys, improper tension, seized accessories, or wear. Depending on the engine and accessories you are running it might be a quick find or a require some detection of where the noise is coming from.

So I guess starting with what engine you have...and you can add that information to your profile if you like...go to the User CP near the top left of the web page...click on that...then click on the Edit your details option from the menu...

Put in as much information as you want and save it...that will help others who are familiar with the year and engine to help you...

Welcome to the madness !

welcome I just joined as well and I had the same problem with my ranger, I changed every single pulley from the AC clutch to the idler pulley, and it still was screaming, what it end up needing was a new super-tine belt and it fixed it right up I would change the belt before doing anything else just in case.

Well since then, I blew a head gasket and now just broke a wheel bearing. Fortunately it's under warranty still from the used car dealer I bought it from, but I have definitely started second guessing my purchase haha. Hopefully it's smooth waters for now.
