Hi everybody,

I have a 1997 Ford Ranger -- V6 4.0, 5 speed, ext cab. 230k miles.

Out of the blue, I lost all the back lighting to the three HVAC switches. Are these all powered by one single bulb? Is there something that I should check first? Fuses all look okay.

Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated!

Joe

There are two 194 bulbs in the climate control. Remove the radio, and the radio bezel. Remove the climate control, the bulbs are in sockets that twist out.

Thank you! I'll check it this evening.

Is it possible to replace these with LEDs?

I see these 194 LED bulbs. Wondering if that would hurt anything . . .

Thank you!

I don't see why not. Just remember that LEDs are polarized so it they don't work at first, flip them around in the socket.

I'd spend the extra for dimmable ones too. If you don't one of two things will happen.

1) They will be full bright all the time.

2) They will be full dim all the time.

If all 3 went dark at once, I would suspect fuses or wiring first. This is a case where a meter is very helpful. :D
