Twister 85 B2 Build

Twister- if you don't mind describe to us how you're setting it on TDC.

I use kind of a modified finger over the spark plug whole idea. I have a compression tester tube with not valve in it, screwed into the spark plug hole. Attached to that a small piece of clear tube submerged in motor oil. I rotate the engine (clockwise) till air is being pushed into the motor oil, i turn it tell it stops producing air bubbles. At that point it is nearly on the TDC mark on the balancer, so i line it up exactly on TDC and go from there. I used this way on my 2.8 and 2.9 with success on both.

Try this. Get it to what you think is tdc. Pull your tool out, stick a Philips head screw driver in the plug hole until it's resting on the piston. Turn the crank with a breaker bar and get the piston at it's absolute highest point. Be careful not to let the screwdriver bind up and damage the plug hole threads. Then set your distributor on the #1 plug wire.

Have you confirmed you are still getting oil pressure when you crank it?

Without the clip in the right spot that driveshaft will just drop out the bottom of the dizzy into never never land.

My pressure gauge hasn't read anything since I started trying to start it. I am going to take the dizzy put again tonight and take the electric drill to it and see if I can get some pressure on the gauge.

My gets pressure while cranking, I can get up to 20psi on a cold start in the summer. In the winter, it takes awhile to get up to full pressure on a cold start.

Got the dizzy back out and took a drill to the oil pump. Got just a little 40 out of it.

The amount if frustration is frustrating. Set it tdc again, put dizzy back and still only get backfiring, makes me wanna cry lol. I hope I didn't mess shit up with changing the timing set :(

Sounds like she is firing late still. I would take allot he plug wires and rotate them all one tower clock wise and see what that does. Do remember that's what 85 ranger had to do running the explorer FEAD (if I remember right).

Forgot to clearance the power steering/ ac compressor bracket so I removed it and went to town.
This is with a little grinding.

Put it on and it wasn't enough so took a bit more off.

Anyone know how much of the rounded part that holds one of the idler pulleys I can take off and it still be safe? If I take some more off the back of the round part i looks like I can get more room for proper dizzy placement and timing.

If it's just off a hair or so and you can't turn it enough then move all the wires one tower over.
