1997 ford ranger no brake lighrs . but everything else works

I have a 1997 ford ranger stx that the brake lights don't work but my turn signals work taillights etc. I changed the bulbs and brake light switch . im stumped I also checked the wiring too

The circuit passes through the turn signal switch too. Usually wipes out the turns or the flashers too though.

How did you check the wiring and not find the problem? Did you just look at it...?

I just spent about 4 hours under my dash (it seemed like that long) trying to test and change out my headlight switch...after all that it turned out to be the column connector was just slightly disconnected...

Anyway...if everything else is working and you've changed the brake switch...I'd try to trace that set of wires because there is sure to be a break in it somewhere...perhaps the wire for the brake lights has rubbed against some metal or someone tried to use it while installing a radio or other accessory and the wire is grounding out.

It's usually such a simple circuit that is controlled by that brake switch...and if both lights are not working it's probably the feed to the switch...maybe there is a fuse specifically for the brake switch that needs to be replaced...but probably a fuse link.

I guess there is a problem with our flasher. Replace your flasher, it might work
