My 91 Ranger the stRanger

Everyone and their dog does a 5.3/5.7/6.0 now a days itll be nice to see an old school 302 build.

Im finding myself at my buddies house measuring up his 6.8 v10 :)

yeah the 10 will be cool for sure:icon_thumby:

I understand what you are saying, why go with a 302 since none of the swap I am planning is a bolt in or reuse current component builds?
I guess the reason is because I like the idea of a ford engine in my ford. Why not just build an s10? Why not just nuild a jeep that already has a solid front axel?I'm sure a lot if people question my reasoning, but in the end it's my truck and I want myself to be happy with it. I did look into the 5.3, but I would rather do a 5.0l. I think both engines are great and both have a ton if aftermarket options.

I agree.
Keep a Ford a Ford. :icon_thumby:

i drive allot and need to consider the whole cost so i run what i can afford best. some guys want to build a fresh engine and 6-7 grand is an easy investment.

likely, these days for a gas engine i would consider one of the current v6 engines in a daily driver as much as i hate to say it.

any of the new 280-300 hp models. the 3.7 one in the fords is pretty good imo.

i sure as hell am not anti ford 302 by any stretch, but i am not made of money either and quick efficient swaps are my preferance and low mile 302's are getting harder to find. theres general overall big picture, and actual goals and needs.

whats most cost effective to swap into a ranger can easily be a 302 depending on where you live. some places you simply can not get a ls type engine cheaper than a 302 if it has to ship 1500 miles and you have a pile of ford stuff.

i really dont care what a guy uses, i just like to add the variance of the ls type stuff because its so cost effective and most overlook that.

the nissan and toy v8's are decent engines too...but then my bias kicks in:icon_rofl: i would throw one off a bridge before i wanted to swap it into an rbv.

but if you dropped your truck off with a jap v8 powertrain in your bed....i would do it for ya.

Only problem is adapting some of these newer motors with their return-less fuel systems and anti theft programs built into the ecm's really adds to the complexity of the swap.

k.i.s.s.

I am looking for a 88-93 5.0 with obd1 and I'm going to do an egr delete. I don't want to eff with obd2, pats, or any of that return less crap. K.I..S.S. for sure.
Thanks for all the replies and opinions guys, it's good to get a mixed bag of info

But you can play with the programs in the computer for more power! After helping friends do 3 ls motor swaps the above isnt a very good reason to stay away from these swap. Return less system means you've got to run the right filter and computer send it in for $150 and its flashed for your vehicle egr delete pats delete and more power. Unlike obd1 that you have to dummy everything out. Much simpler in my opinion.

I'm too in the same boat I'm thinking of going to a 347 or ls motor. Since my c4 is built and I don't want to change drivelines again. If hadn't already done the swap built a tranny welded in cross members the answer would be simple. A sacrilege Chevy motor. Again gunizzle it's your truck.

you can hook the c4 to anything.

but i agree, the mentioned shortfalls no longer apply. ford or whatever. obd 2 is no longer the devil.

i know if i were going efi ford i would adapt a later 05 mod v8 system or the 01 explorer.

i have had too many issues with odd failures with obd1 stang computers.

Well I have a bit of an update.

I got a built c4 transmission, atlas adapter and b and m shifter on it's way. (Found a deal on pirate)

And I just bought a 89 351w motor, harness and computer. I got a deal I couldn't refuse so I upgraded from a 302

I wonder if that's the same adapter for a Dana 300? If its you could run a dodge 203 which is the same spline count as a 300 23 spline. Then you could run a 203 Dana 20 doubler like me. And nice ill be watching I thought about a 351 but it's a little taller than my motor and wider. I'll be watching.

I have a 2 inch body lift so vertically I should be good. I am going to make my manifolds. Depending on clearance I might go fender exit exhaust. Ill have to look into the adapter when the tranny gets here

Cool thanks I am definitely going to look into that shop. What reduction ratio does your doubler setup? Did you use a kit?

If its a truck 351 Im not sure the intake will fit under your hood. They make some pricey adapters to bolt 5.0 car intakes on tho.

My efi 5.0 intake has just enough room on top of it to get my shock hoop brace between the intake and hood on my ranger. I have a 2" body lift as well. I have a 351 in my 94 f150 and that upper is way taller than the 5.0 intake, then you have the higher deck height also.
