i drive allot and need to consider the whole cost so i run what i can afford best. some guys want to build a fresh engine and 6-7 grand is an easy investment.
likely, these days for a gas engine i would consider one of the current v6 engines in a daily driver as much as i hate to say it.
any of the new 280-300 hp models. the 3.7 one in the fords is pretty good imo.
i sure as hell am not anti ford 302 by any stretch, but i am not made of money either and quick efficient swaps are my preferance and low mile 302's are getting harder to find. theres general overall big picture, and actual goals and needs.
whats most cost effective to swap into a ranger can easily be a 302 depending on where you live. some places you simply can not get a ls type engine cheaper than a 302 if it has to ship 1500 miles and you have a pile of ford stuff.
i really dont care what a guy uses, i just like to add the variance of the ls type stuff because its so cost effective and most overlook that.
the nissan and toy v8's are decent engines too...but then
my bias kicks in

i would throw one off a bridge before i wanted to swap it into an rbv.
but if you dropped your truck off with a jap v8 powertrain in your bed....i would do it for ya.
