Im pretty sure the GEM is the big box on the left. I dont know what else in the dash has to with engaging 4x4. To start with, could someone walk me through checking the voltage on the dash switch if you would ? Thanks.

The big black box is the GEM (Genericl Electrical Module) the little black one should be the 4X4 shift control relay. The one on the passanger side of the hole should have nothing to do with the 4x4 at all. It should be the relay, GEM, Switch and the shift motor with wiring connecting it all.

Someone posted this link on the forum a while back

look for Auto repair reference center and click that enter your vehicle info and go to diagrams.
They have a full diagram of the entire circuit for the 4X4 on your vehicle in there.

Hey thanks man. I'll check it out. :icon_thumby: No hub worries here. I have AVM'S :yahoo:

Another question

I found out the contacts on board inside the dash switch were worn into so I found a switch on ebay and it will be here on the 3rd. Meanwhile I put the broken switch back together and put my insert and radio back in just for looks and my genious friend turned the knob and somehow it shifted into 4low and now its stuck in 4low.:bawling: I know someone on here has jumped out the switch before.

Question:There are 4 wires on the grey plug. Which pins can be jumped to switch it back to 2wd ? Or is there a fuse I can pull or anything I can do to get 2wd back until the new switch arrives ?

you can remove the shift motor and shift into 2 wd, if nothing else works for you

Thanks, but i am wanted something else to work. :icon_rofl: If I had the (shiftster) on hand I'd do it in a heartbeat.
