Project ST- yet another V8 swap....

I noticed your ABS warning light was on, did you figure that out? I was looking at the 2002 SportTrac wiring diagrams and it shows the ABS module plug pin 14 black/orange is a ground. I noticed you have the orange/back from the GForce Transducer tied into it, do you think that could be causing a cel? I know that the ABS Module is grounded at pin 8 and pin 24 also. Just wondering.

On his truck, the only and best way to fix the ABS light, is just to remove the bulb, on my 89 BroncoII the light was on, and instead of chasing down a new block and a new sensor and ring for the rear end, I just fixed it by removing the bulb, no more lite ABS light, no more problems, I still have great breaks.

That's gonna be a nice SportTrac I have only found 2 including yours with the V8 swap, personally I think the 01-05 SportTrac should have had a V8 as an option to begin with.

Thanks, hopefully by Xmas I can get the M122 I've been wanting to get for it and be the very first v8 boosted 4x4 Trac prowling the streets...

I have a question were you able to wire in the g force transducer into your existing abs, or did you have to swap to the explorer abs for it to work? I was curious because for the early 01 sport trac it shows the abs as a vss signal for the pcm, but late 01, 02 the abs is not shown in the vss.

Mine is 09/01, I thought about trying it, but since I had the abs module, I just swapped it out...

Thanks, I was just curious about that, I been wondering if the early 01 and late 01 used the same abs or not.

Update...
I've put about 6k miles on the trac since the swap, and its time to change the oil, again. Ever since I did the swap I wanted to get away from the small 820s motocraft oil filter and run a dual setup like I did with SVT. I ordered a kit from summit, summit's brand, # 4986-1. SVT got transdapt unit. Both dual filter housings from both companies are almost identical. The block housing, however is very different. I'm not at all impressed with the summit brand block housing. It has individual fittings to adapt to different blocks with different threads. That fittings is retained by a wire spring similar to a snap ring. Since the fitting just sits in the housing, there is nothing that seals it, allowing both oil and oil pressure to bypass the fitting. I have the old housing from the transdapt kit, and I'll be using that one..

Since I have rack and pinion and not a gearbox, I think I have enough room that I don't need the 90* block adapter. Later when the 60's go in I'll use an early bronco box that sits outside the framerail so it wont interfere with the block adapter...

SVT, aside from the S/C, what are you next plans regarding the 1356 t-case?

Nice work, especially considering the VSS / ABS situation.

(NOTE: Sorry, this is not intended as a personal threadjack. Just your opinions of this combination on the Gen 3 xcab frame.)

My M5OD-R1 is grinding, 4.0L is old developing that slight notorious OHV tick, my 1354E hangs up (I know its just the e-motor), and my slave just went out. I am researching either a full OE drivetrain swap or with a full 5.0L / M5OD-R2 / 1356 swap.

What do you think of this combination (it was your plan for the ST anyways)? As far as I know, it's all bolt-in (with motor mounts of course- you offered some kid $25 for the plates in another thread) with an Explorer 5.0L harness without PATS, 90* filter relocation, and raising the new tcase 1.5".

It's all good, no harm in asking right?. Actually, the upcoming project HWW will likely get an ex 5.0, SBF ZF 5 spd and the 56/20 doubler I built for SVT. If you have the resources, I'd go with a ZF, and a 205, its small and damn near bullet proof. If you decide to run the 56, you can mod the trans xmember to the passenger side about an inch so it will clear the frame. Either way, the 96-97 ex motor and ecu/harness really is the best way to go. Everything else you stated is right with what I used :icon_thumby:

Looks good...no doubt Ill have some questions for ya when I start wiring my truck.

In regards to the 5.0/R2/1356, I put that exact combo in my truck, take a look at my build if you want to see what I did. That 1356 is a big b!itch though, ended up mounting everything at a slight angle to get it fit nicely.

Feel free to ask away. I enjoy helping others on swaps like these :icon_thumby:

A couple bolts and an adapter plate :D

As some of you know, with fuel prices slightly falling, I've decided to try to help my fuel economy by swapping out the GT-40 with a 2.1L. I'm also installing the dual filter kit today. Stay tuned...

I hope you take plenty of your customary photos. I like following your projects because I can actually see what you did.
