Project ST- yet another V8 swap....

Shane, yours sounds pretty good, is that an E cam you have? I'm thinking of throwing an F cam in my stang motor when I put the 112 on. Btw, I love the single chambers, normal cruising sounds like the 2 chambers (40 series), but when i get on it, it sounds like open headers :woot:

Congrats on the build. Good to see someone else finally do this swap. Nice write-up also. I am sorry I never got around to better documentation on the swap, but as you found out, things fit better than you would think!

I've been looking to see just how many gen1 trac V8 swaps there were, and how they were done. You look like you did yours the easy way by transplanting the entire system. Now that I've done mine, I almost wish I would have done the same. At least my speedo would work without extra work...

do you still have the front flares ? i found an explorer up here that was hit in the front end and it has 2 good flares on the rear

I'll have to check, I don't remember, but i don't think I did. I think I left them in the ex when it went to the scrapyard...

I didn't know you already scrapped it! That was quick.

It left last week or the week before (when i got the exhaust done) If I would gave known I was getting your old cab, I would have hung onto it for more parts...

Speaking of, I did the math, and with buying the donor at $1250 price tag, I sold the 4.0 and 5r55e separately for 650, and got 50 for some hvac parts, and about 50 for the console. By the time I shipped those parts, it wasn't really worth it, but in the end I helped out some fellow TRS members. Anyways, still had a lot of good parts, but I wasn't gonna let it sit around long enough to be another project, so off to the scrapyard it went. I got a couple dollars shy of 600. So basically, I was paid 50 bucks to do my v8 swap. I didn't have to buy any special parts, everything was pretty much bolt in and hookup. I did have to do fluid fills, but I count that as regular maintenance. When I did the v8 swap on SVT, it cost me $155 to do it, only cause I had to buy some parts, and I didn't sell the original motor or trans to recoupe my $$. All in all, I think I would have done the swap as soon as I got it :woot:

Total price of truck including rims, v8 swap to date - $1,150
Total price of having non-stop pudding face everytime I hit the skinny - Priceless!

I'm trying to find out if I can get a vehicle from the salvage auction. I wish I would've had the extra money to buy that 2000 with hail damage. That one was nice. And it was grey leather interior.

Your in luck, I did keep em. How's 25 plus shipping?

Well, I'm working on the ranger today, but sadly its not, but svt's twin, railmans truck. Some of you know, some don't, but I call it the twin cause SVT and railmans ranger differ by only 3 letters in the vin. Both have same month and year birth date, same paint, same engine, trans, and Tcase option. Different gears is the only difference in the package. Anyways I had to measure for rear shocks. So I used SVT's shoes to measure..

12" I'm pretty sure

Edit:

Actually I think it was 10 because 12 would make the tires hit the cab

He already shortened it I believe 10", I'm shortening another inch, but with it flexed out the tires still have 10" from the cab, he can actually shorten another 7.5" after what I have done and still be at least an inch from the cab...

I noticed your ABS warning light was on, did you figure that out? I was looking at the 2002 SportTrac wiring diagrams and it shows the ABS module plug pin 14 black/orange is a ground. I noticed you have the orange/back from the GForce Transducer tied into it, do you think that could be causing a cel? I know that the ABS Module is grounded at pin 8 and pin 24 also. Just wondering.

I have a bad sensor on the front where the previous owner messed it up. I'm only running the abs module for my speedo. I have removed the brake lines from the abs system. Shortly I will be taking the Dana 60's from SVT (narrowed 91 kp hp 60 front, narrowed 60U rear) and will be going under the Trac, so the front won't have abs capability anyways. The cel is from an emissions component I forgot to delete during tuning...
