mike's probably closer to you than me....and there's still a lot of water between ryan and myself.i may be in his area at the end of the month, though.
it will have probably moved on by then.

ya:dunno:

too much work, but somehow i'm still not rich.may have to try a different tactic.
i just bought a trailer load of mercury outboards that were piled behind one of the lodges.looks like i'll pull in a pretty good buck from fixing them up and selling them.might finally solve my impending homelessness(the estate is in the lawyer's hands,i'm still trying to buy the place)by providing a decent down payment.
i've got a 2006 merc 90efi,a 2006 merc 50efi,and so far 7 2005 merc 200 V6s together out of the pile.i'm keeping a 200 for my boat,the rest will be sold.

should be good for a buck or two....then maybe some time for my projects.

there's an 'after'pic on a 200 and the 50.those should be good for 9k.the other one behind them is the 90.i have it sold for 6k.

the lineup of engines i've run up so far.this is like a full time job.

How long before one of those is powering a wheeled vehicle? Lol.

i wish...that's 50 cylinders and over 1500 hp sitting there.could be fun.

but, right now cash would be pretty cool too.

Well if you can't find a buyer for one I think the chop top expo would be fine with a 200hp 6 cylinder.

nah....i think the v8 it has is plenty fine.'bout a half dozen of them would probably move the ranger ok,though.

Batter than the gears and power plant you've got in there?

Here's a logic question for ya, maybe not logic... But w/e, If you have enough gearing, could you propel a ranger to virtually any speed, with virtually any size motor?

Let me rephrase that, take a moderate motor, 3.0 or something, and a speed of say 250km/h could you gear it to do that speed, or is there a point where it just won't go any more? This being a theoretical situation, with no additional drivetrain loss than stock...

Lastly, hope everything works out with the home and family for you!

nope.

as speed increases,so does friction from air resistance, tire contact, and mechanical drivetrain components.at a certain point the power required to overcome resistance will equal the power provided by the engine and you just won't go any faster.

this is why speed records are held by streamlined torpedo-shaped cars with skinny tires and hugely powerful motors.

air resistance becomes huge at high speeds,as it increases at roughly the cube of speed...so if you double speed, air resistance increases 8 times, triple speed and it's 27 times higher.while there are variations from the shape of the vehicle, this is a pretty good formula for doing top-of-the-head calculations.

on another note....

here's what i found when i openned up that merc 90.thought it was interesting.

That is interesting... I thought Mercs were Chevy based

The local dealer here in town is a Ford/Merc. dealer.

For cars, yes. Mercury marine is a different company.

Most of the mercury marine stuff is Chevy based. If you go buy a mercruiser 6 cylinder inboard, it's a 4.3. If you get a mercruiser small block, its a Chevy 350.
