ranger refit/build thread

I'm not sure. We got the engine second hand with the trans. It could be though. Boat is a straight inboard

could well be...it's a common trans with straight and v-drive setups, one way to tell is that when you shift from forward to reverse there's no clunk,as it's basically like an automatic(clutch shifted planetary)with only forward and reverse gears.

Sounds about right. It's definitely the same shape as some of the ones on their website, really short and round.

^ That's what she said.... (sry, I couldnt help myself)

Just joined onto this site and this is one of the first threads that I found. I am loving this build. You are a freaking genius. I just went through every last post and post on this thread. I hope you get everything straightened out with the house.

gives it that much needed reliability:icon_thumby:.

Damn this is one impressive build

it'll be more impressive when it goes from 'build' to 'built'.

unfortunately,i've got about four lifetimes of projects on the go....and a fraction of a lifetime left:shok:

How goes the house situation? Hope it works out. That way you can finish the ol gal! :icon_thumby: (still my favorite Ranger by a mile)

Just have to say, Spent about 3.5-4 hours reading this entire thread. You. Are. My. Hero. :icon_cheers:

....i'd had this crazy idea floating around in my head for a long time about stacking transmissions.the theory sounded good, but as is usually the case, actually doing it is a bit more work.

but i had an early bronco 3 speed and t-case hanging around........

refit010_crop.jpg

they don't exactly bolt onto the end of a ranger trans,so a bit of work was in order.i turned down the input gear to a stub, and cut the spline off the input of a ranger t-case.i machined the splined section to be a press fit(3 thou)on the gear, and tig welded the two together with chrome-moly rod.i made an adapter plate from 3/4" aluminum, and a centering/seal plate from 1 1/4" aluminum, using an old tailshaft housing as a template.

I have wondered for a while what it would take to do something similar to this. Do you have any more pictures of the modifications in the second transmission?

the only modification was to the input gear...while i don't have any more pics from when i did it,i still have this trans and will have to tear it down at some point for maintenance and will get some pics then.

as is usual with my stuff,a certain amount of patience is required:D

Hey Tom, long time no talk!

How's the island the days?

I got some goodies rolling in for the 93, gonna build it into a bit of an overlanding rig I think, something I might think you'll get a kick out of.

sweet....but if you build it into an 'overwatering rig' you can drive it over here!
