Transfer case fill plug stuck

didn't drain it but i'd like to.. lol

is it ok to just take a 3/8" air tool and loosen it or will that crack the aluminum?

I don't see that being a problem. Start at a low pressure and work up until its free, do short bursts. Better yet, use a breaker bar.
It's steel to aluminum, shouldn't be rusted together, just over tightened.

the impact is the best option, try heating it a bit with a propane torch as well.

+1 on the propane torch, I use mine all the time to free stuck bolts. Also try some penetrating oil, such as PB Blaster.

And if it's rounded off and you can't get a wrench or a socket on it, weld a good nut to the plug and have at it

I've used a big visegrips and my floor jack to break loose stuff underneath where I cant get a good purchase. That is how I break loose the fitting on my BMWs tranny dipstick tube ,so I can drop the pan. I dont like pounding on aluminum but a few taps with a 16 oz hammer prolly wouldnt hurt. If you booger it up, get a new plug.

We do it all the time at work! Just put the ratchet on throw a cheater bar over it and whack that bitch!

A big breaker bar and I jacked it up so I could get a better push. Was a stubborn bitch but I got it and the fluid was dirty. But draining and refilling is tomorrow's project. Thank you for the help

I catch you guys doing that a lot.

Few months ago there were all sorts of wild suggestions flying in another thread on how to remove a stripped head bolt until I came along and pointed out that it was a T-55 not a traditional hex head bolt.
