We started the tear down of our 1989 Ford Ranger STX about a month ago.

The Red Devil Ranger. Trail Rig build.

Plan: Edited 7/21/11

- Dana 44 Front
- Ford 9inch rear
- 5.13 gears
- Leaf Springs
- 37" IROKS on Steel wheels and beadlocks
- Simple Exo cage.
- Winch
- Double bobbed bed
- Rock sliders
- Doubler

First thing we did was swap out the old 2.9 to a better running 2.9.

We bought a 9" and a Dana 44 from a friend for really cheap. We also bought some black steel wheels and beadlocks from him.

Next we bought a doubler kit a while ago also. That, wasn't so cheap..:bawling:

We got the tires and wheels, along with the beadlocks mounted.

Today was a big accomplishment. First we got the IFS crap out.

First thing was to get the 44 rollable:

Next the IFS crap came out.

Then, after jacking it up about 8" from where it sat origionally, we were able to roll the 44 under it and get a taste of the final product. Looks pretty dang BA to me. 8-)

That's going to look wicked nice! How are you mounting the 44 and how far forward are you moving it? Also what is the specs on the wheels?

It will be hung by Wagoneer leaf springs just enough forward to clear the back of the fenderwell. The axle ended up about 62" wide, the wheels are 15x8 with DIY beadlocks and about 3.5" backspacing. Ended up about 80" wide to the outside of each tire.

looking good so far, who did you buy your doubler kit through ?

looks sweet.

so you must be using chevy outter stuff on the 44 but what bout the 9"? looks like all the wheels are six lug ?

Wagoner outers but they are the same as Chevy. The rear is going to have 14 bolt full floater outers custom machined/reworked to 6 lug.

This is sick! I love the Stx trucks those decals are cool

I like the black everything on the STX's. Those decals are most likely going to come off though. Once the bed is bobbed, it will probably be completely repainted a red, like on the beadlocks.

The iroks bias?

Yes.

so your building a 914 with 1 off outters or just the 14 with custom outters?

OK, we need some advise here. Trying to nail down the location of the front axle. It's 2.75" forward of stock in these pictures. I think it will clear the back corner of the fender but it's interfering with the pitman arm. We are going to trim the fenders at least at the front. I am thinking I need to move the axle back just a bit more to clear the pitman or maybe go with a flat pitman arm and leave the axle in this spot.
Looking for opinions here.
