we here is the story figured try my luck at a newer little bit more reliable ranger. where to go local ford stealership. well not a whole lot to choose frm there but did find a 05 white ragner edge liked everything bout it except for the auto tranny but i could live with that seeing how the newer ranger's have a 5speed auto. so brought it home after talking with them let me try it out for a day no real complants just a few minor things. in darn good shape with 80,000 miles. k here is the kicker my credit has been fubared for years and thought there was no way i would ever get approved. well low and behold i did. price after trade in value $2000(i know i would be just giving it away) and $2500 down with the trade in they want $16995 18% interest (figured it would be high) i told them there was no way that truck could value that much well they agrued and well guess what i got to there site and the online price is just a few hundred above nada price. told em i would thk bout it till monday and get back with them. think i am going to raise a little he** bought trying to screw me over lol. here is a link to there site with pics and options on the ranger.

looks really nice, but why they have totally different prices?
usually when u go and see it in person they tend to lower the price thats on the net.
atleast they do here...

Let me get this straight, you are seriously willing to pay 18% interest? Have you checked anywhere else?

On a 5 year loan at the $14,700 internet price, you'd be at around $375 per month. This is a grand total of $22,500 which translates to $7,800 in interest charges.

OUCH!

You'll be into it more with taxes, dealer fees, etc. tacked on there.

don't know thk the salesman is trying to pocket a few thou

Darn little bugger trying to make money anyway. Usually the online part is seperate from the brick and mortar part. I have caught Cabelas with the same trick and got some serious money knocked off of cap and ball revolvers by them price matching the online store.

I about had a light blue 97 or 98 F-150 with purple graphics crammed down my throat sideways at a Ford dealer in the big city. I asked for a 5.4, this thing was a 4.6 "that is about the same" They had the paperwork out right after the test drive... I ran and ran hard.

They were only offering $200 for my trade which made me as mad as anything.

After that I went to a small dealer that was just opening in my hometown. My dad that I drug with knew the guy, he flipped me the keys and said "take it out and see what you think" as opposed to my supervised test drive in the big city with a salesman that wouldn't shut up. It was a lot more money, had a third the miles, the engine I wanted and through my local bank was $10/month cheaper... the loan was a little longer though. The guy there politly reconfirmed my suspicions that I would be better off to sell my car privatly... which I did for $1500. He said he would send anybody my way if anyone came in looking for one. It sat in the driveway for a week, got it cleaned up good and it sat by the highway for another week and it ws gone.

I imagine this is through Ford Credit? Have you tried a Credit Union? I mean, if you could get someone to go even 14% - 16%, it's better than 18%. My Credit Union would be at 2.99% on that - and the banks are at 3.99% around here.

I'm just thinking you should shop it a bit. Might save you a lot of money!

1990 Plymouth Laser RS Turbo 5-spd. 170k miles ran and drove perfect, had some chips in the hood and the paint on the roof was oxidized a little. She wasn't a new car by any means but still... they didn't even look at it.

Now the only cars like that I can find for close to the $1500 I got out of it are rolling shells.

The whole motley crew for the two weeks I had them together, the night before the Laser left.

ya i tried no luck

Geeze, at 18% you are better off going to a buy here-pay here and dealing with an auto-track box for 3 years.

If I were in your shoes, I'd get something more in the $5,000 range. Pay that off, then jump in a little deeper with a better credit score.

Things still go wrong with newer vehicles, and it usually costs more. I would consider that when jumping into a nearly $500 per month payment.

EDIT: I'm not trying to be a prick, I just hate to see you bite off more than you can chew.

had 27% on the Blazer and it was a Ford dealership that ripped me off on the price and they also hid problems by clearing codes and pencil whipping the inspection to get the warranty. I had it inspected before we bought it the chevy dealership next door and they charged me $45 and told me nothing was wrong with it....... 30 miles later it has emission codes for O2 sensors and codes for an anti-lock brake module and all kinds of chassis and body codes. To date I have spent $3000 getting all the problems taken care of. And they claimed they would report my payments to the credit bureaus and they have not on either the Lincoln or the Blazer. ....... figure I have to blow the transmission up 2 or 3 times to get my money out of the warranty....... which is really good ...... they replaced the timing chain and that solved a bunch of problems and paid for new hub assemblies.

this is why we paid it off in 4 months so the rip off dealer would not get another dime more that I was willing to pay. Seriously, I have had better treatment at buy here pay here lots....... atleast they will fix a car to keep you making payments.

in contrast, we bought the Prius from a new Toyota dealership, with $10,000 we got financed through Toyota Financial @ 7.9% for 3 years.

If you are financing a vehicle there is little sense in buying a truck loke a 2005.

And considering the interest you might wish to investigate a NEW truck

Keep the beater you have now and save some coin to buy the truck you want with cash. Auto loans aren't good for anything. You basically agree to pay twice what the car is worth now over a period of several years, by the time you own it it will have depreciated to half what it was actually worth. In the end you payed four times what the truck is actually worth.

And borrowing for the sake of boosting your credit score is ridiculous. Why would you borrow money now so you can borrow money later?

As i said, keep beating the beater till you can buy the shiney truck with cash. Contrary to what the media would have you believe, debt is a bad thing. In the olden days the words debt and sin were synonymous.
