Gt-12

this thing done yet? i'm to impatience gwaii... i still wanna know what were you thinking when you thought that motor fit there??? lol, don't get me wrong! i like the idea! i just wanna know the logic you were thinking when you made the plans

What is the matter are you not talented enough to build the radiator also. Dont listen to me all I understood is the radiator has 3 cores and a oil cooler, you probably get alot of those hits from guys like me wondering when we will see some more pics of your unlimited fab skills. I just aquired a boat for free a 91 16 foot sterling bowrider with a volvo penta SP sterndrive 120 hp. Hopefully all I need is the timing belt, raw water impeller some seals and a start relay. It has been sitting for two years any advise on what I need to do before taking it out if The cooling system is tite other than change engine and gear oil.
sounds like a good score-volvo drives are always in demand...has it been a saltwater or freshwater boat?

logic?

plans?

sorry...no comprendi.

All I have is a clymer service manual and what I am reading is 10W30 with API of SG or better what would you recommend for the engine and gearbox. volvo AQ131D engine and SP gearbox.

sounds about right

in the gearbox i usually just use 80/90 gear oil,or the merc leg oil...though i'm not sure that's worth the extra money.

change it every season and you'll never go wrong.

Yea I thought so also I believe it has only seen fresh water when I pulled the engine cover it looks brand new I am going to change the oil in it tomorrow but it starts up good when I jump the starter and the raw water tubes show no sign of salt. It looked like pure antifreeze in it also brite green. I have never had a pretty boat like to do some skiing next summer. The raw water pump has been leaking for some time out the shaft seal it had grease in it I was just going to put it together with vaseline the intermediate sprocket is pretty rusted on the inside. The intermediate and cam sprockets are the same part number but cant afford a new one at $180 so I just scraped the rust out of it hoping it is not too far out of balance and there is enough metal there to last for a while. It would be nice to find a good source for used parts just not finding any around here.

we're getting the first big storms of the season(power was out for about 6 hours last night)so i was back to inside stuff today.figured it would be a good time to get the shifter working properly.

i made some changes to it,running a pivot out the side with an arm that a solid link could work off of.this also allowed me to lower it by about an inch.

after a bit of time spent adjusting stuff,i'm really happy with the results.it clicks into every gear positively, and the action from park to reverse, park to drive, and low to drive are exactly as i wanted them to be.

now i'm getting the throttle hooked up,i've figured out where the links need to go.now i just have to build them.

that shifter looks sweet dude!

do i remember you saying you have to disassemble this car to get it out of the basement, or do you have a drive-out basement?

I seem to remember him saying the disassembly thing too, but I think it might be less hassle to build himself a drive-out basement than it would be to rebuild the car.

less hastle? really? this guy fit the biggest motor he could find, into the smallest car he had at his disposal... somehow i don't think "convenience" is really a factor...

disassembly is required...but it has nothing to do with it being built in the basement.

even if it were being built in a 100 000 sqare foot warehouse with a door big enough to drive a 747 through,it would still have to be taken apart.
you see,as everything is fitted together it's just tacked so changes would be easier, and of course nothing is painted.

once everything is fitted so i know it will work, the car must be torn down to the bare frame, them all the finish welding and painting done.i will simply be taking all the parts outside for that.

after that it can be put back together like a big model kit.

and trust me,that will be the easiest part of building this thing.

somehow i'm not surprised that that will be the easy part of this build! lol, i've been following it since in the early stages, though i forget where exactly i jumped in, as i've read the thread over a few times

the reason that will be easy is that all the thinking part will be done with.it's just shut-the-brain-off-and-weld time.

and bolting up a bunch of nicely painted parts that don't need any fitting, grinding, and head scratching requires as much thought as bolting in a bds lift kit.

well, maybe not bds....i usually have to re-align some bolt holes on those.

maybe a superlift.i don't know, none of them fit as well as all the bits of this car will.
