Well I think the armrest in my truck has been broken since about a month after I rolled it off the lot, and has been an annoyance ever since. About a week ago I found out about an after market replacement for the plastic piece that breaks, Rockauto has them for $40 part# arm100.

This took me about 45min in the driveway ,and house(cold outside 10* and snow) And only had a 6 in1 screwdriver 2 leathermans and my drill.

My Ranger has the center console that flips up for a middle seat and has the stupid latch on the side that always breaks on every Ranger. First week I had my truck my sister couldn't figure out how to open the console (my latch was INTACT and UNBROKEN) so she pulled as hard as she could and broke the damn thing! :pissedoff: My Bronco has this style arm-rest and I really like it. There is actually room in the console to store stuff, but I do miss the one in my Ranger because the girls like to sit in the middle :D

Agreed, except i epoxied my latch and it has stayed intact (so far), the plastic on the inside of the lid is all broken to hell though. It's great when girls sit in the middle and you throw it in 4th gear :D

HAHA! I just put in my RockAuto repair kit in my ranger just yesterday. Mine needed some modification for my picky fitment tastes...but I absolutely love it!! I should have a full write up in the coming days. It'll including my modifications as well(like using 3/8" hardware instead of 7/16" and more).

Nice. I just bought an 06 and this was the only thing really wrong with it. I asked the dealer if they can fix it cus i was being picky but I don't want them to now after seeing this. I may as well do it right the first time.

Good Site.

Thanks

I really appreciate the post, the pictures, and the information on this! After scouring local boneyards and coming up empty and refusing to pay the egregious gougefests on ebay, I have the solution to my problem on the way. I bought my '03 this past summer after some chowderhead ran a stop sign and assassinated my beloved '97.

The 2003 is in very fine condition save the armrest which was in the back of the cab when I bought it. It broke in precisely the same spot and in the same way. Since then, I have been on a quest to get this fixed, hindered by the availability of the part but mostly because I'm a parsimonious tightass. After seeing this post, i ordered the part last night and once again, I really appreciate your addressing what is a very common problem in a practical and constructive way. Good onya and Happy New Year, folks!

You guys do know this armrest fix is for shorty consoles on bucket equipped trucks right? Not 60/40's....

Well they should make a replacement for the 60/40 ones as well. :icon_twisted:

Easy....they do. Cut up your 60 into a 40 and install a shorty console! All bases covered!

Meh, I'm probably swapping in Escort buckets at the end of the winter anyways.

its funny that this fix was so easy but so hard to find lol

it was worth the 52 bucks shipped to the door

Just put mine in. :) :) Its funny how the crack wasn't a huge problem but now that it's fixed my truck seems like it might even run better now. Runs good anyways by the way.
