My swap left the front end squatting so I added new HD coils for "air conditioned vehicles". Maybe I should have got the 4.0 coils. Now sometimes she looks okay and sometimes she seems to have the front wheels leaning in. Do I need spacers? There is barely 1" between the long arm and the rubber stopper. Excuse the lack of proper terms. What do you think? Is there a coil that will work? Phil

Thanks, it draws some attention going through town slow, as people listen, especially other Rangers, as they know something seems different. Still looking for ideas to boost my spring height an inch. Phil

id try spring blocks to see if that helps they are used for sagging springs any parts store should have them

That is quite possibly one of the coolest swaps I've seen.

Curiosity though, since as near as I can tell this is a 2wd truck? Try getting some 4x4 Ranger coils, they ride a little taller than the 2wd's. I'd try that first. Otherwise you could try the good 'ol fashioned F150 coil swap. And if that still doesn't work there's aftermarket lift coils (figuring the f150 coils are cheaper than the new aftermarkets).

Um, no they don't. The TTB 4wd coils are the exact same as the 4wd coils. The 4wd's extra height comes from the beams being taller.

Nice swap!:icon_welder:

I'll have to take your word for it I guess. My '84's coils seemed pretty tall compared my '97's. like several inches, or more than I could forsee them compressing with the weight of the truck on them. As far as I know they were stock, all of the other brackets were and it all lined up, never had a problem with it.

is that ranger a 2wd or a 4wd? im accily getting ready to do the same engine swap

jrpdash9, are you going to start a build thread to show your progress in the swap? If so, I'll be watching!

I would say get some Explorer coils from a wrecker, they should be a bit taller than Ranger coils.

aftermarket? oem free heights may be similar but installed heights are a different story.

the extra height of 4x4 TTB Rangers/Explorers come from the shape of the beam, not the springs.

I run Norris-McQuay aftermarket progressive HD coils
and even so to get my 4x4 truck to sit the way I wanted to required 1/2" spacers between the coil and the beams.
