Finally think I've got the wiring diagrams figured out and it's time to get started. Pulled the truck in the shop today and yanked out the 3.0 . All went well and she came out nice. Will spend a day or two in the engine compartment cleaning things up and getting it in order.

Had to go back and find that it's just a good old 4.6. Man they are big.

Update on 4.6 install outrangerous

Thanks for the encouragement on the build, it's coming along. Had to do some house cleaning and front end maintenance while everything was open and exposed. Degreased and pressure washed the frontend, scraped the frame painted and sprayed it with bed liner paint.

Found the lower ball joints going bad so had to replace them, also found link rod missing to the front sway bar ??? not sure when that went, replaced it to. never put shocks on for 11 years so I thought I'd throw in both front and rear.

Here we go with the first test fit

Hoisted the 4.6 and pushed the truck in the garage. Open wide her she comes.
[/IMG]

[/IMG]

It went in nice, actually set it in by myself. I left the factory exhaust headers and starter on just to see how it all fit.

[/IMG]

[/IMG]

It looks so big on the floor but actually looks at home under the hood.

WOW !!!! This just might work.

Test fit update OUTRANGEROUS

Well the engine wouldn't quite set down between the frame rails with the exhaust maifolds on so I raised the engine up a bit and removed them and the starter and set it back down. It fit life a glove, I set it off center about 1.5" to the right and eveything looked good. It looked so good after I lowered it down to where it would sit, it looked like the exhaust manifolds might fit. I raised the engine up about an inch so the manifolds would clear the brackets on the frame for the upper control arms and they both went on and looked like I will be able to connect the pipes up. WOW this sohc must be a litte narrower than the dohc. This setup will require a little more work on the steering shaft but I think I will be a good trade off. Things are coming together and look good. Set the engine and trans where I think it should go and measured up some motor mount plates, looks like 2 flat plates welded onto to original mount and it well drop right on them. The trans comes up about and inch short of hitting the rear mout so I'll bolt on a plate for that also. Things are looking up. Will have to put things on hold for awhile now, got some family stuff to tend to but it's all GOOOOOOOD.
Blessing

Engine motor mounts

Been working on the MM and clearance issues. Needed to alter the passenger shock tower and grind some material off of the upper control arm brackets.
I set the motor over 1.5" to the right of the original motor which had already been offset.

[/IMG]

[/IMG]

[/IMG]

Fabricated a filler plate for shock tower and completed welding in the MM.

[/IMG]

Completed MM ready for install. This should give me room for stock exhaust manifolds, I'm going to try some flex pipe from the manifolds to the cats. The trans mount is a bolt on plate.

It's all falling into place now.

New rear motor mount plate

Didn't have much time this week but did manage to fab the rear motor mount plate. The new engine rear mm fell about 1" short of the original rear cross member.

I was able to salvage some exhaust manifold flanges from some old manifolds I found. Recovered the original cats from the 3.0 engine and hope to graft them into the new exhaust. Bought some flex pipe at advance auto, might make the connections easier. Bought an oil filter relocation kit, Trans Dapt #1127 bought it at race mart.com. Cheapest place I found. I also bought a Trans Dapt 1427 - 90 degree bypass adapter from Hedman Hedders.
