Brief Explanation:

so anyone who has the flag mirrors know that they are small and that they suck. they get floppy and just look crappy. so i decided to swap on a set of 06+ mirrors. the old way of doing this was drilling out your doors and using washers but that was a pain the but and you would never be able to use normal mirrors again if need be. i read about this way on ranger-forum and went to it

Tools Needed:
- hack saw/dremel with cut off wheel
- file
- sand paper
- 4mm nut driver
- small flat blade
- larger flat blade
- phillips screw driver
- 11mm nut driver/ socket
- 7/64 allen head

So lets begin!
start off with your 06 mirrors. notice how much nicer and bigger they are

next you will need to take off the foam on the back and you will see these little risers where the bolts are.. these need to go. unscrew them with the 4mm nut driver.

cut them off with either a saw or a dremmel.
2011-08-09_18-58-44_324.jpg

sand them smooth and pick out the little hairs with the small flat blade

put the bolts back into the holes. try to start them straight but if not its fine. they should straighten out.

put the foam back on and tighten down the bolts so the sit on the outside of the foam

now your mirrors are ready to mount to a pre 06 ranger

Part 2

first you need to remove the door panels. first start off by popping the cover off of the manual window crank(if you have one) with the larger flat blade.

then remove the 3 bolts with the phillips and the torx screw inside the window crank

the trick to removing the panel is to lift up and then pull out. theres tabs that you will see once you get it off.

this is what you should see once the panel is removed

using your 11mm nut driver/socket carefully remove the nuts inside those 3 holes where the mirror is. once done the mirror should fall out

put the new mirrors in the holes and snug up the nuts. install the same way you removed everything else.

TIP: make sure all tabs are lined up and that the door lock is in the hole before pushing down and locking the panel in. it helps if you have a friend to maneuver the door lock with one of the screw drivers to line it up with the hole.

i should have pictures of the finished product in the morning

this was my first real submission so i hope i did alright. i would also recommend not working in the dark and in the rain like i did. it was rather annoying even with the umbrella i set up. haha

Do these come with lights in the bottom of them? I've seen somebody (I think RSH) that has lights in theirs, but is that an add on or factory?

I added the lights.
so did my cousin eduardo95, but i think he went with smaller lights.

I did the swap with this method as well. Much better than the drilling method. Even got the fancy ones with a gloss black cap, and hooked up the electronics too so its all power!:

Very nice tutorial. My girlfriend was reading it along with me and even she can probably do it now! :P I just ordered a set of mirrors and I will be doing this to my 1993 2wd. I will post pics to update and refresh this thread. Thanks!

Awesome how-to! +1 rep. I just did this today and it took maybe an hour. The hardest part is getting the panels back on, which isn't too bad anyways. Here's a pic with one flag and one new mirror so you can see the difference.

LOL, Thats awesome, I did this back in May. In fact I have it posted on ROT<--- link.
I used the same method.
These following pictures are before my lift three days later.
