Most that I have heard of doing this kind of swap have had to run the exhaust on the outside of the frame. Wonder what the gas mileage will be but then again I should be worried seeing as Im getting 10mpg with a 2.8.

Like where this is going, but why does everybody run an automatic transmission with these kind of swaps?

Need more!!!!!!!!!!!!!

i'm going to make some block hugger headers and then use lots of header wrap so it doesn't burn anything. auto trans are an easyer fit in, such as a C4 witch is very small so there for is an easy setup with a 302, i on the other hand am using a C6, mostly because thats what was bolted to my 351w when i got it.

I still want to put a non ranger engine in my truck, but being its the only vehicle that I own, I cant just take it off the road to do something like this.

351W swaps are easy to do. Nothing fancy needed just well selected tight manifolds or a trimming of the frame with long tube headers. I boxed my frame from the crossmember toward the rear for about 24" just to make things easier.

Gas mileage.....my 358W pulls 16mpg with a Holley 750 vac adv running about 12.5:1 AFR.

Automatic....the C4 is so light and easy to spin. I know several Mustang guys that swapped from T5's to C4's and only lost a tenth and 2mph in the 1/4 mile. But they gained big in consistency.

Since that post I have got a 302 and whatnot for an engine swap that I will be doing this year. I have read that guys have been getting easily 20mpg carbed with the 302 in a ranger.

ok now that i have learned how to post the large print pics. here is the pics i was unable to post before because of there size. they span from the start of my build to where i am now.

first time fitting her in with front slump oil pan:icon_confused::idiot:

:badidea::badidea::badidea::badidea: :badidea::badidea::badidea::badidea:

after i was done being stupid by trying to fit her in with a front slump pan and lots of online reading of what to use, i ordered a new dual slump pan from jegs.:drool:

checking about where my core support will be

at the time hoping theres enough room for a C6 back there

after about two months of wait for my brother to rebuild and install a transpak kit from B&M in my transmission i got it back but i cannt complan to much labor was free:icon_thumby:

holy cow it fits:icon_surprised:

as you can see i went with the V6 mounts and home made plates:icon_welder:

Now for the exhaust on the passenger side i use the passenger header jegs sells with the 302 swap kit, just need a notch cut out of the frame to fit

the driver side header is a total different story, i made it out of an old 302 header that came out of my dads 93 f150 pickup that had been hit. this was my first time welding together any kind off header.

only sad thing about this header is it has to be putt in from under my truck:bawling:all because of the ball flange i used.

After i bolted my core support and fenders back on:D:icon_cheers:

for my radiator i used one form a pontiac grand am and the fans from it

that sums it up to this point left on the todo list is
  • have drive shaft shorten
  • hoses and belts
  • battery and little more wiring
  • spark plugs and wires
  • install shifter
  • complete fuel system
just need more money and a job now:annoyed:to finish her up:sad:
:worthless::wrongforum::joke:
