I stumbled acrossed a posting on craigs list

and where it says 4x4 ZF, the guy says big block or dieseal. does this mean that this ZF WOULD or WOULD NOT bolt up to an '89 302??

just curious cuz im planning a 302 swap into my ranger and lookin for a stronger 5speed tranny.

Yup, that means the bellhousing pattern is wrong for your 302 plans. Bad luck eh?

The ZF trans is made in several bellhousing patterns, only one is compatible with a 5.0.

You need one from a 5.8 for it to bolt up.

There are 2 ZF transmissions in Fords, the 542 and the 547. Reguardless they came in two bell patterns, small block and big block. The diesel/460 pattern tends to be more common. The small block pattern is of course for any SBF. Actually you can find the ZF behind anything from a straight 6 to the 351; it was an option for all engines. Most likely you'll find a 5.8 in front of it though.

The 4.9 and the 5.0 are the same bell if i remember correctly . The 460 and diesel bell are different also.

I think I have what you need, bought it as a rebuilt but changed plans. Have the matching BW 1356 x-fer case also. They are for the mid '80's 302/5.0. All I can say is PM me and I can probably delivery since you are relativily local.
