Your Truck Collision Insurance - Aftermarket Add On's Covered?

Yes, "agreed value" is like a "prenup", lol

Not all insurance companies are equal. I used to talk with our body shop manager all the time, Progressive is awful, Allstate pro rates the paint on vehicles, for example. I had Peerless insurance, based in Concord, NH for years and they were bought by Safeco in 2012. I asked the b/s manager about Safeco and he warned me away from them. In NH any vehicle 2 years old or newer has to be repaired with OEM parts- no offshore, kind-of-fits, cancels the corrosion warranty junk. He was arguing with them about a 2010 vehicle because they claimed it was 3 years old by counting 2010, 2011, 2012 and wanted it fixed with aftermarket parts. He couldn't convince them that it was not a year old the day it was built.

I whacked a deer with my F-150 eons ago. State Farm put a "remanufactured" bumper on it.

It looked weird up close, like they ran a wrecked one thru a press and rechromed it.

It is rusting like crazy now (it's been like 15 years) Rear bumper is still rust free and AFAIK is original to the truck.

I have to have custom parts coverage for anything i add (progressive).

The General gave me $3800 for my 96 k1500 that wound up totaled pretty good in 2015. Im smack dab in the middle of the rust belt, had the truck shipped in from seattle area in 2013 because i wanted a clean gmt400. Found exactly what i wanted, almost $12k said and done. Was clean as the day it was brought here and The General didnt care, they went from $3200 to $3800 because i threw a fit. I changed insurances pretty much that day. Not really much customization on it but definitely an oddity in the rust belt.

Some of it depends on the body shop you go through as well. I've had good luck with State Farm but I also haven't had any heavily modified vehicles either. When a local body shop took car of the 2011 after a wreck, they did a good job and didn't use crap parts. This is one of those places that people complain about their prices and them being high way robbers. Of course, these people are the same ones who don't work on their own vehicles and have no value in time and labor spent on repairing vehicles. I'd rather pay "extra" on a quality shop and go cheap and get a crappy repair.
