You know you stand behind your product when....

this is actually old technology, i remember seeing it like 5 years ago or so, it wasn't on time warp at the time, and the guy didn't have the balls to do it to his own finger...

i seem to remember the parts, blade and brake, and all the other parts, involved with stopping the blade, that would need to be replaced, cost about 400$ or something... which there was discussion on if it was worth it, but honestly, my finger is worth more than $400, and it's not like you have to pay that once a year or anything, it's only in the unlikely event you DO cut your finger... i've used table saws quite a few times, and never nicked or lost a finger, though i did have a shop teacher who had a lazy eye, one foot turned inwards, a bad limp, and missing 2 fingers, and i believe a testicle... it would work well for him... (the saw)

Well they mention that it costs 60 bucks to replace it after it was triggered....pretty fair trade off for keeping your digits.

That shop teacher sound familiar...I think they call him 'Lucky'

lol lucky

yeah, $60 isn't bad at all! mine was Richard Starkey (i think it was richard)

I've seen those work in real life....pretty awesome.

But, my old boss had a few go off for no reason, causing him to replace the parts. So it's not quite perfect......:dunno:

If the wood is too wet it will trigger the stop. We triggered a few in my high school shop class like that, but never with a finger. I say $60 is worth it to save a finger or hand.

I agree, having lost some fingers myself. :annoyed:

We found that yes, wet wood will do it, along with tree sap.

I almost lost two fingers on my left hand using a table saw (carelessly, of course)...it would have been nice to have that technology back then...but I don't see how moisture triggers these things because his finger wasn't even touched...the hot dog wasn't scratched either...

if you watch the older versions of it, they do take a nick out of the hot dog, which is why the guy probably didn't want to use his finger... the new one, i assume the sensor is just more sensitive...

as they said, it's like a touch lamp, you don't actually have to be touching it to make it work, slightly off will work, and if you watch the way he does it, first, his finger is WET, he dips it in a cooler before trying it... and second, he slowly rolls his finger into the blade, doing so, from initial contact of the blade to his finger the teeth would probably get 2-3 full rotations before actually cutting you, because there's no pressure on the blade... same reason you can put a razor blade on your skin, blade down, without cutting you...

Ahhhh....that makes sense...I don't have sound at the library where I surf...I can bring my headset but I keep forgetting it...

well in that case, you might want to check out this link...

Hahaha...thanks...but I actually have a computer...where I live I can't get high speed...for several reasons, not that it isn't available or affordable...one reason is that it requires a 50' tower...the other is I should be moving in the near future and don't want to spring for the equipment only to be saddled with the monthly rent (ISPs in the area are all wifi and don't have a pay as you go plan)...

And the Bell/Rogers sticks are way too expensive...cheaper to drive 30 km and use someone else's connection...

i'm just VERY careful when i use a table saw. i've used one for the last 5+ years with my remodeling company i havent had any scares. i just check where my hands are before i make the cut and if they're gonna be too close for comfort, i get out my pusher. same thing with the chop saw.

cool stuff tho, i seem to remember seeing another thread on this.

When I nearly cut off my two fingers I was using a pusher...but a small cutting ended up right beside the blade and I, being the freakin' genius that I am, tried to flick it away with the edge of my hand...
