Before I put in this axle i brought that came off a BroncoII, whats a sure way of knowing the locker is engaging and disengaging properly? I had a buddy hold passenger side of the axle while I spun the driver side. He couldnt stop it at all from spinning. I know on the "open" diff. its effort less to keep it still.

Sorry if this seems like a no brainier to some, but I MUST KNOW!
 
It would be a limited slip if it's stock. If you are turning the drivers rear wheel forward the passenger side rear should also turn forward. I don't know a simple way to tell how much wear is on the clutches, but from your description they sound OK.

Did you ever confirm it has a locker (pop cover)? You can make one side unlock by holding it still and spinning the other tire but you'll have some clunking and ratcheting happening if it's a locker.
 
Yeah I did take off the cover and this is what I saw.

I cant remember if I heard anything thou. When I spin one side of the axle both sides always spin.
 
That looks like an Auburn LSD.

The break down in nomenclature screws someone once again. The seller either doesn't know the difference between a LSD and locker (which happens all the time), or he screwed you.
 
Yeah looks like a LS carrier...the damn thing is huge!
 
Well I cut off the old spring perches and welded them where they are supposed to be thanks to the Tech Library. I read a lot about 7.5's and I dont see myself running into any other problems that I know of.... Has anyone ran into a pinch that may have not been cover? Reason I ask is its my daily driver and I only have the weekend to do which is more than enough time if things go my way.
 
Since it's a pre-90 axle, it also has a smaller pattern pinion flange compared to your original axle.
 
Yes I did notice the flange was a bit smaller i still have the old out for the original 7.5 that came withe the truck interchangeable?
 
You can swap if but be very careful to not alter/increase the pinion bearing pre-load.
 
I'm trying to find the specs on them but cant right now. I did make a mental that the drive shaft wasn't going to be a direct "blot on".
 
Someone may correct me.
A quick way to check the preload; mark the position of the pinion nut with a paint pencil and then back off a 1/4 turn. Use a beam style torque wrench and a friends eyes to come back to the same spot. You could also use a click style by sneaking up on the torque 10 lbs at a time. As in start with a number you know isn't enough to be proper and keep increasing the torque value until you see the marks line up again. That way you know the torque for that particular rear before swapping out the flange.

I thinks that's what I will try alwaysFlOoReD, thanks for the help guys. I just want to make sure the axle goes in fine before I start taking it apart.
