Hey folks - my truck is showing the all too common P0340 code for the Cam position sensor, but it still runs fine. No missing, no squealing/grinding from the back of the block, no symptoms of a problem other than the check engine light. If the CPS was actually broken, wouldn't the truck at least have a bit of a "miss" to it?

Did that, also reset it with a code scanner. The engine light will stay off for one "on-off" cycle: I.E, I reset it, start the truck, drive it. No engine light. Turn it off, start it again = engine light. P0340.

Looks like you took the proper precautions w/ batt. disconnect & scanner. Maybe it's "hinting" that the CPS and/or syncronizer is going on the blink-

Yep, took the CMP off the top of the synchro today in hopes that I could just replace the sensor, but it appears my luck ran out. The tone ring is pretty mangled- guess I gotta replace the whole thing.
