year of my motor????? HELP HELP

i dont know the year of my motor i need new heads its the 4.0 ohv but they made changes over the years so they are not inter changeable or are they

its in my 1988 ford ranger and its out of a ford exploreer i really need to know how i can get the year of the motor so i can get the right heads

please help please

You can try looking at the data sticker on the ECC, the engine should be the same year as the ECC.

Post a pic of the belt tensioner. That can help narrow it down.
