Can I buy any bare lower block (2.3L SOHC) 1983 to 1988 to use as a mock-up to weld up the engine mounts in a new chassis? Are all these year model front mounts the same?

I put an 87 Ranger 2.3 into my 88 Ranger that had a 2.0..and the specs at the top of this section doesn't indicate otherwise for all 2.0, 2.3, or 2.5...as far as motor mounts go. They may use a slightly different style mount but they are located in the same place.

Same as the Mustang 2.3...all mount in the same way...only difference I've found is the transmission cross member (and the Mustang uses a different transmission)...but I currently have a 96 2.3 that uses the same exact crossmember as my 88.

From what I've read of your intention to use the 2.3 in an older frame the only thing I'd be concerned with is the fan clearance from the rad...unless you plan to use electric fan(s) then you just need to allow for the clearance of the shroud from the pulley...

All the lima blocks have the same motor mount bosses on them. I'd suggest using the 1983-1987 Ranger rubber motor mounts, and block plates (they are best looking, and most compact) unless you are planning on building some sort of trick street rod style mounts.

From his other thread it appears the motor will be going into a "new Model T" frame...so it may require some fabrication...looks interesting~

Thanks guys for all the help and information, this will give me a big year range of blocks to try and find as a dummy mock-up to use when laying out the new chassis.
