Yeah baby!!!

So, I figure I am going to try and design a 4link up front. Anyone got any tips?

i would mimic the jeep y-link long arms... bushings at axle side, flex joints at frame side.

i tried to figure it up once...

then decided it was almost worth buying the rusty's arms and being done w/ it... then just making flex joint mounts for my frame, tied in w/ the trans crossmember.

I would rather 3 link it over a y-link. Much stronger and simpler just have to make all the links the same length.

My 3rd link has 3/4 heims, the other 2 links are teraflex links which flex in the middle have poly joints on the axle end and superflex joints on the frame. Tracbar has the same 3/4" heims on them.

for a DD, i would recommend not using heims, you want that bushing of the flex joints..

on a tracbar, i woundn't worry to much with the "heims wear out to quick" thing.. heims are fine for tracbars. dd or not.

you will probably get more flex easier out of the 3 link, plus its probably easier to build a 3 link than y-link. the 3 link is less likely to bind up like y-links can.

Heims don't wear any faster than anyone else joints. There are dozens of guys I wheel with that have several year old heims that are still tight as hell. Poly bushings are the ones I see wear out quickly. The only thing I wouldn't use heims for is steering TRE's last forever and are strong as hell.

let me clarify: on arms, i said use flex joints b/c of the bushing there, not b/c of the longevity or lack of the heims... IF its a DD.

and several years on heims don't tell us how long they have been used.. are they dd's? or just trail rigs used 8-15 times a year?

Mix of DD's and weekend warriors. Joint of choice up here is the heims of superflex joints. Most guys honestly destroy the superflex joints. Which is cool cause you can rebuild them, but heims seem to out last them. Not to mention no matter which you go with a quality joint is what makes the difference. In all honesty if you pay for quality either joint will last plenty long. On top of that 3/4 flex joints are ****ing huge.

3 link it if you don't want to redo the exhaust.
Exhaust is fubar anyways, need to redo it. not an issue....

Holy crap dude! I might use this when I build mine.....do ya mind?

Can anyone show me a 3-link? difference between 3 link and y-link?

How is it stronger?

The setup shown in that other thread isn't actually a three link. It's a radius arm setup, with one arm being a y-link and the other being a wristed arm. To be a true three link, it needs three separate links, such as this:

If anyone is curious on the setup of a 3 link on the Ranger you can check my build thread :) [/ranger whoring]
