YAY! Truck Found!

i dont know what the guy wants for it but if you call Andersen Transmission in elmont NY 516 352 2760 he has one in his yard with no plates on it prolly an automatic similar color scheme to the one you see where you are

I found a 1985 Bronco II XLT I would like as a parts vehicle for $200. It is a stick with the 2.8. Here are some pics:

I think $250 would be a good deal for that ranger, but you never know what deals you might find if you keep looking.

He can say the engine is good all he wants but two years of moisture in an engine can destroy it, not to mention like Hepto said, every seal is probably shot. Waste of time, offer $100 or walk away - you will find a better deal in time. That's my final piece of advise, take it or leave it.

I would be hard pressed to think that moisture of suffeciant quanity could get in the engine to destroy it. It usually takes an exposed exhaust (like a open stack on a tractor) and rain/snow going down the exhaust pipe and directly into the engine to cause major damage. That engine is pretty well covered from the elements with the hood down.

Humidity might make the engine stick, but a brake fluid or tranny fluid soak will usually fix that since it is usually pretty mild, and a used engine will not stick as hard or as fast as a new one.

For only sitting 2 years... if the seals are shot they were when it was parked.

I have gotten tractors going that were parked outside for decades, no major leaks that can't be attributed to the machine being 50-70 years old. Even with stuck engines as long as water didn't freeze in the cylinders and break stuff. They usually come around without even pulling the head if you take your time (barring previous injury)

the body on that truck looks pretty decent for over 25 years old. frame doesnt look too bad. But I would look at it this way:

that truck is just a rolling chassis. Unless the guy starts it up and it moves under its own power, that is what I would treat it as.

2 years sitting in the weeds with the windows down will pretty much make sure your electrical switches and whatnot are going to be flaky at best due to dirt and corroded contacts from being open to the elements. Then you have the rodents to look at. they have probably chewed a boatload of wiring under the dash and in the engine compartment.

the power steering pump is shot. (no cap, all sorts of bugs moisture in there, I would not even attempt to use that, as you wil probably trash the rack seals if you do, provided they are still good)

it is a 2.8, and it is probably not worth the expense of buying the seals and whatnot to fix any leaks if the seals are shot (likely, after two years of sitting)
also any rubber in the engine compartment is probably bad as well. (hoses, belts etc)

Interior will have to be ripped out from carpet to headliner (of course you knew that)

If your other ranger is good for a motor/tranny and interior swap into this one, you are doing good. I would offer him 200 bucks. if nothing else, he might come down to 300 or 275. doesn't hurt to ask.

just my thoughts

AJ

I am getting the motorcycle, my buddy Jason is going to be paying for it, and I will be paying him back for it. Should be here in the next few weeks.

Ranger freaking Kip. You gotta be kidding, you want that ranger and the bike, when there's is a what charger or super bee in the background of that pic? If I know there were any remains of a car like that I would have it in 1 second.
