i need to know how i can atatch pipe to the y-pipe flange where the cat used to be. i have some 2" pipe that i stuck into the flange and then jb welded some sheet metal to cover the rest of the flange but it ended up blowing off and so i need some new ideas

Make a copy of that flange and weld the pipe to it, put a gasket between the two and bolt it together? Shouldnt have removed your cats and cashed em in!

So you only have one flange now? I think your best bet is to just buy new cats. If you search around, there are a few that have made one universal cat work. Like one of the magnaflow cats. If you do that you've gotta weld some pipe and make a flange (since you don't have the old one.)

Otherwise, get a new OEM double cat system. Probably the easiest but most expensive unless you get one from one of us parting out a 2.9 in the classified.

i have no metal working tools so i cant make a copy of the flange and the only welder i have access to is a car battery some jumper cables and coat hanger. ive searched for just flange but cant find it and that is what im really looking for

hmm..Sorry man. I think that a used one from someone on here or a new one might be your best bet then. I can't think of much else that you can do.

Temp exhaust fix

I was having a similar prolem getting from my H to my cat. I just took two sections of 2" tubing and connected both ends with 2 muffler claps per side.

I can easily make you the flange if you have the 86-87 style "Y" pipe,

They make test pipes that go into place of cats. I bought one for my '88 Ranger 2.9L a long time ago, but I don't have it anymore. I left my old exhaust system in the garage of a house I moved out of. Wish I could still get in - I would cut it off. Hard to find those test pipes anymore.

Edit:

Here is one for example:

This one is for a '90+, not sure if it'd work or not...

My opinion is that you should unbolt the Y-pipe from the manifold. Then cut the pipe off straight and run true dual straights out behind the back tires. Mine is pretty nasty sounding.

Cut a flange off an old cat from a parts trck and weld it to your pipe.
