Hi, I have a '92 super cab, 4x4 4.0 liter ranger, I had to cut the exhaust y pipe to get the trans out, it was rusted really bad at the converter. I was wondering what other years and engines I can get a y pipe off of so that it will bolt up. My y-pipe only had the 1 o2 sensor, so I'm pretty sure I have to stay in the gen 1 and 2 years, I just need a bit more info as to what will work when I go junkyard crawling.

Thank,
Jon

I'm pretty sure a 2.9 y-pipe will bolt up to a 4.0. So 88-92 2.9/4.0 y-pipes.

It will

the only diff I found was # of pins in ox sensor pig tail so check that before u put it in.:icon_welder:

Correct.

1988-92 2.9 and 1990-92 4.0 all use the same Y-pipe.

1987 and EARLIER 2.9's use a different cat flange
and 1993-94 4.0 Y-pipes have dual HEGOs in the down pipes rather than a single HEGO in the collector.

I am in the same boat more less. I have a 2.9 y pipe that I plan on using on a 4.0 conversion. Can I use the y pipe but purchase a 4.0 o2 sensor so that way it will plug into the harness ?

yeah anything pre OBD II should fit your truck, whether its a 4.0 or 2.9 doesn't matter.
